Scandanavia trip suggestions?

We are headed to Scandanavia in a couple of weeks. Trip goes: Copenhagen, Oslo, Bergen, then Stockholm.

Anyone been and have suggestions or things that aren't that great to pass?

Was in Stockholm a year ago. Vasa museum is a must, you won't believe how big that thing is. Took the boat to Drottningholm palace. (Just make sure you get on a boat somewhere) The Abba museum was fun, unexpectedly. Skansen is like living history farms and is really cool. The Nobel Prize museum is really well. done.

Great Grandparents came from Roskilde, Denmark....I gotta go there someday.

Been listening to a lot of Swedish progressive death metal lately. I’d definitely try to catch a show.

I went to Sweden and Denmark last year.

Did many of the usual sights in Stockholm and Copenhagen.

But also spent time in Malmo, Sweden during their annual festival in August. That was a blast.

Went for a day to Uppsala, to the castle, old churches and a national park with medieval Viking mounds. That was cool. Also went to the indoor water park just for fun. Did the “relaxbath” sauna while there. Gender separated so clothing is optional. Fortunately I was the only one at the time and kept my swimsuit on anyway. Felt too vulnerable as a non-European.

Spent a day in Sigtuna, which is the oldest town in Sweden I think.

Just got back from Denmark. What are you interested in? There is a ton of stuff to do in and around Copenhagen, just a matter of what you enjoy.

In Copenhagen:
- Don’t waste your time with the little mermaid statue, but the Gefion Fountain is in the same park and is really cool.
- Nyhavn area
- Reffen for street food
- Tivoli if you have kids
- A lot of museums

Day trip from Copenhagen:
- Roskilde. Hit the viking ship museum, sign up for the hour long sailing tour
- Kronborg castle (Hamlet’s castle), be sure to check out the statue of Holger Danske in the basement

If you can get away for a day or two, I’d highly recommend getting out into the countryside. We drove all over Jutland and it was awesome. Looks just like rural Iowa.

Biggest thing I took away from Denmark is how much the culture/people remind me of Iowans, it’s easy to see that Danish immigrants had a big influence on the Midwest.

Oslo:

Frogner Park

The largest park in central parts of Oslo and a popular recreational area for people from all over the city. Inside the park you find Vigeland Sculpture Park, one of Oslo's most popular attractions. On a nice day the park is full of people; here you can go for a run, walk the dog, have a picnic...

I would definitely try to get out of Bergen to see the fjords of western Norway. The fjord between Gudvangen and Flam is probably the most famous and really beautiful. But all along Sognefjord or south of Bergen will give you a good flavor for it as well.

We took the public ferry/speed boat to several stops (https://www.norled.no/) and likely just as good and more affordable than a tourist cruise. We stayed a night at Lavik and that or some of the other port towns mainly accessible by boat are unique to visit.

Also, in Bergen, the view from the top of Fløibanen is impressive.

Finally, when considering what to do in Oslo vs. Bergen, in my opinion Oslo has the better museums, restaurants, city things, while Bergen has the more interesting historical wharf and excursions outside the city.

Granddaughter and I went to an Ice Bar in Stockholm. Chairs, bar, even the "glasses" are made of ice. They give you gloves and drape these huge furs over you, and you go in and they pour shots into these 3x3x3 hollowed out cubes of ice. We had a ball!

Agree on the mermaid...I had an image in my mind of her being out on a rock in the harbor somewhere. But no...

Also agree on the viking ship museum. The ships are cool, but we spent most of our time outside trying the different things out there - hatchet throwing and all that. We didn't have time for the sailing tour, though.

I was there last week. The park is pretty neat and all of the sculptures across the bridge were amazing.
