My son and I (age 36) are going to San Antonio for 6 days at the end of February (Commodity Classic). Looking for any CF recommendations. I've been a few times before but didn't make it far past Alamo, Riverwalk and Old Town.
We have 2 free days and a vehicle. Looking for any great food or sites. Also may take a day and try to do some hiking.

The light show at the San Fernando Cathedral is pretty cool. It's free and runs on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 9, 9:30 and 10. It's Riverwalk adjacent.

The Original Blanco Cafe has some of the best breakfast in the Riverwalk area. They have moved to a new location since I have been there but the reviews look good. Now located at 201 W Commerce.

When we were there for the Alamobowl we went to the Pearl Brewery district. Very cool.

From SA myself.

Hiking? Enchanted Rock, if you are renting a car. Beautiful hiking especially during this time of year. If you're gonna head out that way, you can always check out Lyndon B Johnson's ranch and Hill Country towns like Fredericksburg in the area. Anywhere in the Hill Country is amazing for hiking purposes.

How old is your son? Sea World or Six Flags Fiesta Texas is a fun option if he's a bit younger.

While the Alamo is the most famous Mission, there are others out there that are more beautiful. Try hiking the Mission Trail to capture all of the missions and not just the Alamo.

Breakfast tacos are a must when in SA. Tacos and Salsa is probably the best place for them. Other than that, you can't really go wrong with any Tex-Mex restaurant outside of downtown/touristy spots. If you don't serve good Tex-Mex in SA, you're not gonna last long as a restaurant.

The Pearl is really nice especially at night. A few Michelin star restaurants are available there as well, if culinary arts are your thing.

You'll also be in town for the world-famous San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, one of the most premier rodeos, with star-studded lineups performing. You can always check that out and explore the fairgrounds. They've won best rodeo a few years running. It's a month-long city-wide celebration.

Unfortunately, because the Rodeo is in town and takes over pretty much everything, the Spurs won't be playing in town as they'll be on their annual month-long "Rodeo Road Trip" and won't play back in San Antonio until March.

Ive considered going to the CC. What is all there?

Rudy's BBQ. Go to the Alamo so you can say you saw it. If you have kids I think they still have a Sea World.

I assume you are in Ag. The show is geared towards corn and soybean growers. We go because a lot of our clients have booths there. This there will be 425+ exhibitors and probably over 10K attendees. You can go to their website and see the exhibitor list. In addition to the trade show there are a lot of educational sessions. Happy to answer any specific questions.
All the equipment companies will have their biggest and baddest pieces of equipment there.

Thanks, my son is 36. I've bee to the Alamo but he has not so I'll prebaby go with him.
Go to the Alamo, they are redoing the area, trying to get it back to wait it was at the time of the event. We did a tour that had a jump on and off deal. They took you around the city, dropped you off it you wanted and then you jumped on the next bus that came by. Gives you a great feeling for the city, be sure and go up the tower by the Alamo bowl.

Enchanted Rock
Natural Bridge Caverns

Two places I went a few times when we lived in TX. I'm sure they're busier now and probably more regulated (Enchanted Rock) or commercialized (caverns).

I think the headwaters for the river are on the Incarnate Word campus.

Did Sea World there with the kids a couple years ago and they had a good time with that.

Thanks for all the tips.
I normally try to focus on local cuisines such as Mexican and BBQ in this case.
But since we have 6 days also open to Thai food, Cajun, etc

They drain the Riverwalk at least once a year for cleaning. They find a **** ton of phones, jewelry, etc. You'd be surprised what drunk people walking the Riverwalk drop in the river.
