Rocco joining the Transfer Portal

The one where he said it was like his wife left him and it was like being put in an arranged marriage.
Did he say the same stuff about when TJ was hired, or it’s an extremely poor look? I’m not saying TJ was a bad hire, but commenting it is a little similar as there was an obvious choice for Jamie.

I appreciate everything Chris has done and continues to do for this website, but this has been a big blind spot of his for several years now.

There's a difference between being friendly with the people you cover, and being besties. The latter ultimately leads to less objective coverage, intended or not. Especially on a fan site where the average fan won't ever have those relationships, and cares about/is loyal only to ISU.

Him being so hurt by Campbell/Mouser/Rocco leaving has also lead to a 'meh' tone when talking about Rogers and the new staff, compared to the previous. I don't think he's doing it on purpose, but it's been noticeable on recent podcasts. And that's not fair to Rogers when CF is the leading Cyclone fan site.
Chris just fell into how Campbell operates, you either show loyalty or you are out.

I knew two guys on the staff through my kids sports. They both openly talked about how Campbell had his “loyalty circle of people” and everyone else was expendable. Both openly talked about how Campbell valued loyalty over quality coaching and some staff exits were sacrificial lambs to cover up bad recruiting or coaching/player development from his inner group or himself. Said he treated boosters and media the same, those that 100% drank his kool aid got access and those that didn’t he couldn’t have cared less about. I saw that first hand out of Campbell at a donor event last summer.

The shine of Campbell went away for me once I knew how many former staff left to escape that culture or were essentially sacrificed to protect someone else. There are a couple very restrictive and financially large NDAs out there with former staff. And personally know of 1 staff exit that Campbells statement about why was a complete lie secured with donor hush money.

I’m sure this happens everywhere but in coaching circles Campbell has a reputation as a control freak with a very fragile ego.

There was a lot of stuff that happened on CF that weekend that was empirically not good for CF, IMO. I think they're aware of that with the benefit of hindsight.

Something along the lines of hope he does well but feels like being set up with another person after your wife leaves you.

If I feel ambitious I’ll see if it’s still findable.

It's still up.

I didn't read too much into it. Can't say I found it disrespectful to Jimmy

This was an incredibly fast hire based on....text messages???

CW wasn't out of line imho

The tweet was in reaction to the quick hire and nothing else. I dismissed it because it didn’t really make sense. Usually an analogy is relatable or at least fathomable but what he described has never happened in the history of man lol.

I love Chris and all he does for ISU & fans, but this coaching carousel has brought out an incredibly unprofessional side of him. I understand you build friendships with guys when you cover them for a decade, but does Chris want to be a professional journalist or a professional PR guy for Campbell and co?
Chris Williams is a used car salesman. Now and forever.

Chris says he’ll cheer for PSU and buy a jersey if Rocco goes there

Yeah that’s disgusting. I am (and 99% of this board probably is) an Iowa State fan. I’m not an Iowa State fan because we had Rocco Becht or because we had Matt Campbell. I was an Iowa State fan before them and I’ll continue to be an Iowa State fan forever. Miss me with that garbage

JP has always been clear he’s got his lists. In the days before TP it wasn’t as critical to be fast on the draw. Today it is…I’m not sure what Michigan is going to do…but there’s no way the delay is helping retention or recruiting for them.

In fairness to CW, I think everyone was rightfully shocked when the Rogers hire was announced - not by same random Twitter account, but by our Atheltic Department - before Campbell was even done meeting with the team.

That is certainly news no matter what side of this discussion you sit on.

Anyway, I wish Rocco was going to be around but I will have no problem rooting for whoever the Cyclones put out there next September. Looking forward to seeing who the new staff brings in for a clue as to what their vision for Big 12 football is.

Michigan is also the dirtiest gotdamn program in the country.

That's always going to be a marquee job, but JFC the level of **** recently from that program....

I didn't take that statement as a criticism of Jimmy Rogers, but about Jamie Pollard naming Rogers the new coach at the same time Campbell was announcing to the team he was leaving ISU.

And that wasn't a criticism of Pollard as CW has said naming the new coach quickly was probably important to save the existing roster.

Just because people behave/ feel differently than YOU doesn't mean they are wrong or disrespectful. Not directed at Die4Cy, some of you folks act like a jilted teenager.

Not a surprise, kind of feel the same as I do about Campbell. No ill will but won't be wishing him well or rooting for him. Just another player now. We always hear that these guys commit to the coach not the school, that's true but that goes both ways. We don't owe them any more of a commitment than they do the fans. Rocco is just another player now.

Dirtiest program North of the SEC…

Ohio State would like to throw their hat in the ring as well.
