RECRUITING: Cyclones land Washington State transfer

3 open scholarships if the CF scholarship chart is correct.

Regardless is Hunter stays commited.. Here is my wish list

1) Wing/Stretch who can 3 and D (Another Jaz type for reference)
2) Bigger guard who can handle/facilitate and doesn't get pushed around on D (Maybe Jaden Walker can be coached into this, but better to have someone proven and has more muscle tone). Doesn't have to be a great shooter. Since Bolton, Jackson, Jaz, Foster and Hinson can all shoot.
3) Tyrese McGee type guard who may not be great at D. But can flat out snipe
4) Big body post player who rebounds and can stretch a defense

I'm just so unimpressed with Johnson... If he stays, I hope he was just not used correctly. If he goes, I would think the 4 spot filled by Hinson (hope he stays) and Jaz would be a nice upgrade
Yeah, Johnson is one of those players who isn't that good at any one thing but things he is great at everything.

Johnson is the kind of kid that get's coaches fired, oozes with so much talent and potential you want him on the floor, but when he is he makes such poor decisions that he costs you games. I think Javan could be a decent role player off the bench with a quick hook when he loses focus.

I want a shooter first and foremost. Someone who we can rely on to knock down 25 footers.

and that’s what happened

I think a lot of that is Prohm let him. Good coaches would get on him for doing that, and put an end to it. Bench him if he keeps doing it. Johnson could benefit a ton from coaching and development.

We honestly have some talent to work with, but when the offense is the equivalent of a pick up game at the Y, it’s all one on one.

It all starts with a PG. We were spoiled with 4 years of Monte. But if Hunter can stay committed and take Bolton off the ball. I think that alone adds a 4-6 wins to our season. Jaz moving Javon Johnson to a 6th man role fits Javon's skill set more and is a net plus.

Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this. But loosing Solo and replacing him with a Foster and Condit rotation, in my opinion, is a net positive. Solo hasn't been the same since his injuries. He's slow, couldn't rebound and was a really poor post defender. Foster stretches a defense, is twice the athlete at least and is 7 feet tall. Solo on a good day was maybe 6'7"

Yeah I agree Solo not being there will help.. I do think we're going to pick up another post player though.

Idk, sure think we need another well built big. I mean, Conditt gets in foul trouble just breathing. And is Foster a '4' or a '5'?

The foul trouble is an issue for George. I agree. The Foster position, in my opinion doesn't really matter since the traditional 5 is all but dead in modern basketball.

I really like the potential pick and roll game that Tyrese Hunter and Rasir Bolton could have with a guy like Foster though. Makes whomever is guarding Foster have to honor the threat of him shooting a 3. That could really open up the lane for driving. With how well Tyrese's highlights show him attacking the lane. That could be sweet!

It's more important to have a body who can guard and rebound another teams big guy. Foster and Conditt won't have many guys taller than them on the other team. Which can't be said for Solo, this last year. Adding a third option at the 4/5 who can guard an opposing 5 is #3 on my wish list

Agreed. He has a ton of physical tools to be a good college player and then potentially cash some checks for a long while playing overseas.
Once opposing teams started taking away Johnson's driving and daring him to shoot this year he became a negative on offense way more often than a positive. That also lined up with him missing 4 weeks of game action.

Conference game %s before the time off -
55% on 6.7 two-point FG attempts and 30.8% on 4.3 three-point FG attempts
And after the time off -
39.3% on 5.1 two-point FGA and 25.5% on 3.9 three-point FG attempts.

I think Prohm did give him the hook because of this, but it was only for 2 games that he got under 20 minutes. Then it was back at it with the chucking 3s. The last 5 games he shot 4.4 threes per game at a 22.7% clip. Yuck. You can't throw away so many possessions.

Will probably have to take the Niang route and just say, if he gets by you, you will just have to give up the basket, but then bust your tail to make up the basket on the other end. Think we will be more offensive driven with TJ.

I hope so. Play as much defense as you can without fouling.

Here is wsu fans think

Thanks for this. It reaffirms my initial take which was to give this kid time to actually play for us before calling him a reach or claiming he's some magic elixir to help us win.

From those comments, it seems like we're getting a nice bench piece who will work his butt off. Two things that we definitely needed.

My thought after reading it, all fans are equally dumb.
