Recruit Lists v2.0

Doc specializes in Juco's, Matt A specializes in transfers. Mann is our primary recruiter in HS's. If you're waiting for us to become a great HS recruiting team, you're going to be disappointed.

Harder to recruit four and dones if they are good.

True, but sure think we should be able to go toe to toe with Iowa, Wisc, NW, MSU, Mich, and Creighton for recruits, especially for guys outside of Michigan.

Does seem like we're much more successful at attracting transfers and JUCOs than HS recruits. The best HS recruits we've gotten have been guys that have basically turned out better than they were expected to be by the recruiting gurus. per Rivals, Thomas was 54, Niang 68, and Morris 96th rated recruit. Kudos to the staff for their talent evaluations of course.

Are you positive that its that cut and dried? I mean, Matt A. was lead recruiter (w/Fred) on Vaughn. Also, don't remember seeing any connection with Custer as to Mann being the lead recruiter. Likewise Matt A was listed as main recruiter for Grandstaff at the time.

It isn't that cut and dry. People just draw a lot of conclusions based on a weird year where we decided to only recruit one HS prospect for almost the whole season.

Where do we stand with Alex Illikainen? He seems to be a similar player and might be easier to get out of MN that Ellenson is out of WI. I think I remember that he has been to campus a few times. It would be sweet to land Illikainen and JJ out of MN. That would **** a lot of Gopher fans off.

Really hoping the '15 class pans out, cause the '14 class didn't (got Custer and McKay, but missed on many of their targets).

We have 3 schollies for 15 right? Gotta think we try to get some bigger forward types as Niang, McKay, and Nader will be seniors

I don't get why people think the '14 class is such a negative. Blows my mind. It feels like you guys are totally new to FH as a basketball coach. Not only did he bring in 2 4 star players which is great, he is going to get another 2 at that talent level it seems via transfer. It isn't like there is a ton of room for non elite HS players to come in and contribute. We are outrageously stacked.

We missed on one recruit, the #1 SG in the nation. That is hardly a whiff for the entire recruiting class. That's a risk you don't take if you aren't comfortable with your position.

I'd rather have us shoot for big 12 caliber players and go for transfers, than settle for more mediocre players, if we don't get the top players.

I think most don't include redshirting transfer with the 2014 class (like greyshirts in FB). Their scholarships come from more from the 2013 class. We had been recruiting the 2014 class years before the one month it took to recruit Nader to wrap up the class of 2013.

I agree we really only had one miss though- Vaughn.

I guess, he signed long after Custer committed and will start playing in the same year, albeit at semester.

I think people are just impatient.

I'm really talking track records here. Zero history of Doc being able to recruit HS players, albeit at Nebraska.

Zero record of Matt A landing good HS players. Granted this year he spent most of his time with one recruit and missed. I don't blame that on him. We swung for the fences and missed. That's ok. My point again is that his success has been with transfers and juco's, which are on a much shorter recruiting cycle.

Custer and Thomas were TJ recruits.

503 days since our last HS commit. Whale hunting has not gone well in the HS market.

2015 will be quite interesting.

Yep, and it is an important class to get a jump on replacing Georges, Naz, McKay, and Nader. However, the next season is always the biggest, and most important is getting a big-impact 5th year transfer for 2014. I'll worry about the Class of 2015 next April.

I think you will see at least one trasnfer added this spring that will still be around when those guys leave, even it it's just a year. Or at least that's my hope.
