There's still stuff happening in the background.

Heard very reliably that the MVC is at Air Force today meeting with them about non-football sports looking for a home. Would have to think they're looking at football only in the AAC to match Navy.

Looks like the start of a new pumped up rivalry, sparked by disgust on one hand and anger on the other. How else are good rivalries started? I can see the blood and gore across the football field and elbow checking on the basketball court. WHOOPEE!
Wren Baker the WVU AD was on 365Sports yesterday. Completely took the high road. He has already spoke to ASU AD.

He said WVU fans will take an ASU visit as opportunity to highlight WV hospitality.

The 365 guys have interviewed Jamie, WVU & BU AD's over last couple days. All seemed to anticipate that WVU vs ASU in Morgantown will happen in 2024. My guess is Yormark views all publicity is good publicity. And when time comes for game, everyone will be collegial.

As a word??? Farmageddon is stupid and has no meaning beyond the individual/committee that came up with it. Find something else that the city folk in Florida or Texas or Arizona can get behind.

Or else play the game opposite one that everyone outside Iowa and Kansas will watch.

The games that will attract the most attention are those that will be between the B12 remnants and the new schools.
You do realize the Big 12 officially recognizes “Farmageddon” as a rivalry game now? Referees now welcome the captains to Farmageddon during the coin toss and TV now shows the name in on air graphics.

It has grown onto to me over the years. It’s good to have fun names for rivalry games. It’s more unique than “CyHawk” IMHO.

Isn't WVU-Cuncinnati a rivalry as well? TCU-Baylor has been somewhat heated as of late.
Cincy-WVU seems like it would be a good one, and TCU-BU as well. But I think a league could really gauge from the schools themselves and see if there is agreement between the two to set up X numbers of years as a protected rivalry.

Why would FSU, Clemson, UNC, Miami and UVA, the most certain to get B10/SEC invites, possibly vote to add two teams that need to keep the ACC together as their only liferaft?

Why would they vote for any change in the conference that doesn't let them free, let alone one that could lock them down more strictly?
Good question.

I'm just glad we can sit back and watch this mess from afar now. But who knows, it could heat up again, sooner rather than later.

Where are you getting that? Minnesota v. Wisco has happened every year since 1907.
It's the longest running without a break/interruption in the series. ISU v. KSU has been played every year since the series started in 1917. UM v. UW started in 1890 and has been continuous since 1907 - thus a break (or multiple) in the years between 1890 and 1907

The key is "never." Minn and Wisconsin have the longest current streak and I think overall most played game. It got interrupted at some point before 1907.

ISU-KSU started in 1917 and has never missed a season.

So kind of a silly semantics thing, but ISU KSU is the longest rivalry that has never had an interruption.

Sounds like ND is protecting their independent FB status in case FSU or Clemson would leave ACC. Heck, it would probably make ND's road to the CFP easier as the ACC portion of their schedule wouldn't include FSU or Clemson.

In SMU's case, they can afford to take $0 for the first 6 years because the CFP money. Currently, SMU makes less than $10M in AAC and CFP money annually. Starting in 2026 if they are in a P4 conference the playoff money will likely be over $20M.
Per team? How is that likely to look again?

Hey all. I have been thinking that if the Big 12 goes to four four-team pods, the breakdown would most likely be:

Western pod:
AZ
AZ ST
UU
BYU

Big 8 pod:
CU
KU
KSU
OSU

Texas pod:

TTU
BU
TCU
UH

Leftovers pod:
ISU
WVU
UC
UCF

Right? I mean I don't see how ISU avoids that pod. That would be pretty bleak. Am I crazy?
ISU would never vote for that, nor would some of the others. The Texas teams need to be spit up (most of the time), and the outlier teams rotated.

Notre Dame IS IN THE ACC. They have a say in what goes on. They also bring a lot of money to ACC football with the five games they play with the ACC every year.
But ND's TV deal with NBC is only for a couple years. So if ACC takes Stanford & Cal, no guarantee ND will continue to be in ACC.

It also sounds like resentment by 1 AD for ND pushing Cal & Stanford ACC membership, while ND has no interest in FB joining.

Sure the ACC benefits from their ND arrangement. But the economics were a bit different. I have seen ND currently receives about $22M annually from NBC and around $10M from ACC. The ACC base media rights are in low $20's and with Championships around $40M per school. With their new deal with NBC, ND is asking for $75M. That will create a much bigger gap between what ND makes and it's ACC cohorts.

Real convenient. ND wants the ACC to add teams but doesnt want to join themselves.

I am pretty sure if ND officially joined as a full member it would almost single handedly save the ACC.

That would be a significant change, trigger a renegotiation, and possibly add NBC as a media partner as well. But ND isnt going to do that. So if I was the rest of the conference I would tell ND to pound sand.
Yeah, ND kinda does what's best for ND. They are used to having it their way, having their cake and eating it too.

It would be interesting if the networks (not sure which one has the annual deal with ND) changed their media payout deal with ND, made it contingent on joining the B1G or something, if ND would fairly quickly change their tune. Or, if the CFP teams excluded independents. As it is now, ND simply says: Why share?

Yeah, if Stanford falls to G5, then ND schedule strength would probably fall and their arguments for playoff status might weaken IMO.
Interesting take. B1G has been trying to strong arm ND to join for years. It makes you wonder if that was one of the reasons for not taking Stanford. Stanford will take a major SOS hit unless it joins the ACC.

I believe the 4 playoff teams get around $20M combined to cover expenses.

The 4 team CFP pool is split 20% ($100M) among all G5 schools and 16% ($80M) to each P5 conference. A total pool of $500M.

My understanding is the distribution methodology will remain similar for the 2024 & 2025 seasons for the 12 team CFP televised entirely by ESPN. The major difference, instead of each conference getting 16%, each "Power" Conference school will get an equal share of 80%. G5 schools will continue to split 20%.

Once 2026 season hits and the 12 team CFP media deal goes out to open bid- payout distribution is TBD. But the media rights value for the 11 games is expected to be between $1.5B-$2.0B annually!

Wanna read a well written article? Lol

I always love these sports media guys that clearly don’t know Jack about college sports or realignment writing these articles like this.

I love how he says SMU should consider the Big 12.
