I honestly thought central Florida fans were going to be the worst new members but interacting with Ute fans has changed my opinion.

We need to find a way to get all the Utah fans and central Florida fans into a thunder dome together and see who comes out.

That's really weird. I go to a lot of away games, even some random non-ISU ones, wearing ISU gear and have always been treated fine.
If say, a Pitt fan showed up to watch ISU play KState, I'd offer them a brat and a beer.
If we get ASU in the league, what would you offer this dude?

I don't understand why the analysts are playing daft. As has been pointed out in this thread the point is cost savings. The networks want game inventory, and after that they want to pay the least amount for it. They are not going to low ball the PAC12 and then just bring all those teams into other higher paying leagues that they fund. Universities are being left out in the cold. SDSU you aren't getting an upgrade. Utah, we'll see you in the funny pages. WSU, sorry bros, it could have been us, and it still could be in the future.

The golden goose is shrinking. Eventually the excess payments to the big dogs will disappear as well as there will be no market pressure to pay them. And that's fine as I think there is only so much a University can do with this money. Games will be won and lost with players, and NIL will be the king of that relationship in the not so distant future. I am much more likely to put my money there than directly in the institutions coffers. That's where future games will be won and lost and programs will grow or decline.

Iowa
so PAC 12 combines with Big 12 and Big 10

OU and TX go to SEC

ACC gets split up into SEC / Big 10

and then after all the cluster f ring-around-the-rosey is done we'll be like wait this makes no sense
let's re-do this by region

can we just skip all this bs and go straight to the 4 Region Power Conferences

i think there's 64 P5 teams currently

If we could only get all schools to share the whole pie evenly (which will never happen) then yes lets just reset back to regionally based conferences. I hate this all so much but at least Iowa State has a home and a seat at the table for now.

The extended analogy didn’t land because that’s not what I said, and not really close to it honestly. Utah was above BYU in the Pac when BYU was independent. Utah doesn’t want to be at the same level as them, in the same conference. So they’re denigrating the Big 12. If we were in a similar position, where we’d fallen into being in a superior conference to Iowa for a decade, we also would not want to feel like we were dropping back to their level by joining their league.

Utah is a good brand and school in a growing state; I’m excited for some reasons to visit SLC and catch a Cyclones game there every now and then.

The thing is that did happen three times and rather than make up lies that the MAC is far better than the Big Ten, our fanbase was wishfully fantasizing about a slim 1% chance of a Big Ten lifeboat. I mean it actually happened and we acted nothing like Utah fans. Do you remember the Dave Wandstat rumor that he heard ISU/KU were going to big ten? Half of us didn’t believe him and the other half reacted like it was the greatest news in the history of news. Nobody reacted to that rumor that we’d rather join the MAC. I read UTAH fans posting even yesterday still that MWC would be better than B12 (they’d get 6.5x less media $).

All of it is driven by hatred of BYU but we just are somehow not remotely as filled with blind stupid hate regarding Iowa. I understand how Utah fans are being that stupid about their rival, our fan base wasn’t the several times it did happen.

I like Utah football, I’d have voted them national champion outright the one season they deserved it, and I vacation there a week most years. I was there in early July on vacation this year. I don’t hate either Utah school. Ute fans have been acting like spoiled morons and that doesn’t mean ISU fans are identical morons…if anything we know too much about realignment realities.

Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me. I’m extremely happy ISU’s future is somewhat set and secure. I’m happy I can travel to road games in PHX and SLC.

I’m really bummed out by the fact that the road to the B12 championship is now against (likely) 15 other teams. The B12’s few primetime OTA games for the best TV time is now to be shared among 16 teams. It’s not that there’s any blue bloods in this conference now, but it’s going to be significantly harder to make the playoff as B12 champ now, and the competition for the best tv slots will be huge now.

The teams having down years will be lucky to get a few games on real tv now I’m guessing. I just think smaller is better, and I wish small regional conferences could be a thing again.

This Arizona State fan nailed it! He is right too.

USC games are events when it's a big game. 85,000 all over campus. Jeep even had that track that where you ride along and see what they can do.

Cheerleaders and band members everywhere taking pics with fans. The campus itself is packed, the stadium is cool, and it's a heck of a lot of fun.

UCLA. Fine if you like drinking on a golf course.

Yeah even on days I’m just downtown or little Tokyo I can tell there’s a usc game going like it’s real college football atmosphere. Conversely I live pretty close to rose bowl and you’d never know when ucla is playing…when the actual rose bowl game happens it’s obvious the midwesterners or southerners have invaded in huge #s.

I think he means 1/16 chance of getting that auto bid vs a 1/10.

At 16 teams in a 12 team playoff and Pac defunct I think many/most years the B12 will deserve two bids so it’s more like 2/16.

Pac auto bid has to become a g5 situation if only wsu/ore st/cal/Stan are left.

Ahhh I gotcha thank you for the explanation. I do agree and there's no way that Pac conference would get an automatic bid. No chance lol.
