I think Washington and Oregon need to look in the mirror and see that they are not the big shot schools they think they are.

Testifying
The fact that the Big 10 would low ball Oregon and Washington just shows that they are not a high desirable pair of schools to add.
Wouldn't you low ball them if you're the B1G commissioner? I know I would offer a few mil more than B12 payouts because of increased travel costs.

Anyone not named ND from here on out will get a reduced share to begin. Oregon and Washington are about as good as it gets in terms of football programs/brands that are out there from the PAC and ACC. Definitely Oregon. Wash might be a step below Clemson, FSU, Miami, but not by a ton.

Not saying I wouldn’t want Oregon in the Big12 but I honestly wonder what Oregon is going to look like when Phil Knight dies and the unlimited money machine is turned off.

He’s probably going to leave a huge chunk to the school and his heirs are probably going to continue with the support. The Nike/Oregon partnership isn’t going anywhere either.

Who is doing the saber rattling here?

Remember “we’re not sure if we’re going shopping there (the Big 12)?
Read as, we are not sure if we can find any buyers there. I don't think for a second that we would turn down a Pac school that wants to come over.

Not exactly sure.
I’m starting to get a feel that George is slow playing everything to back schools into a corner. They don’t want to leave and he doesn’t have a good offer, if he drags it out long enough, it makes it messy for them to jump without knowing everything. He pushes them past that logical deadline and they all agree to a 3 year type deal that sucks since the big 12 and big 10 day they need a year or two to organize things. George then gets 3 year more years of salary.

You can offer them the same or slightly less with the hopes that in 5-10 years you move up.

Honestly, I dont think Oregon and Washington are the same caliber of Texas and OU. Not sure why they think they should be in the B1G or SEC.
They don't have to be at OU/UT level. UT is top 5 media rights value and OU is probably top 15.

OR & WA have above average brands and their peer group schools are UCLA, Wisconsin, Penn State. They have more media rights value than most Big10 schools (Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, Purdue, Indiana, Michigan State, Maryland, Rutgers).

So adding OR & WA makes sense for Big10, its just a matter if the TV folks are willing to spend the money now or later AND how much of a discount OR/WA are willing to accept to join in the near term.

No doubt, money will left for Oregon and Nike will still be partners with them but no matter what happens, it won’t be the same as Phil being actively involved making sure the funds are being sent.

Once Phil goes, the money is coming out of someone else’s pocket that I can guarantee you doesn’t care as much about Oregon sports as he does.

I don't think the Pac12 Presidents and AD's are that dumb. They want to stick together in the worst way and that's understandable as most have been together over 40 years. So they are willing to give George every chance to present a deal.

But each school has an internal deadline they are working with and won't be backed into a corner. For some schools it might be the next 30 days and others the next 90 days. The bigger question is how much pressure Yormark puts on the schools to make a decision and if he uses full vs partial shares as a carrot.

Arizona State would be complete idiots to stay in the PAc 12.

Agreed but I guess the theory is that even if Colorado and Arizona bail, they can add San Diego State and SMU and still have the Oregon/Washington upside and the Cal/Stanford academic connection.

The issue of course is that league makes a lot less money than the B12 (or at least something less), and it’s doomed to crumble if Oregon/Washington get their B1G invites. ASU must believe, should that happen, that they’d be a lock for the B12 then.

Seems like a bad gamble. But it seems that’s the theory behind ASU.

I agree with that. Just looking back over the last 10+ years of realignment, the quickest timelines between announcing the move and starting play in the new conference were 12 months (A&M) and 9 months (Mizzou). Colorado and Nebraska were both at ~14 months. The trend the last couple of years has been closer to 2 years or more.

All four of those moves were first wave, which indicated to me things were rushed and other schools learned it takes longer to make the moves. That said, PAC schools are on the clock. It just makes me think we’re going to see something pretty soon here, or it’s not going to happen.

Not anymore than the 7 ACC schools looking to break the GOR and leave the league. The first couple of expansion go arounds, the B12 deferred and were picked over, look what that got us, we lost Missouri, Nebraska, Colorado, aTm and then OU and UT. It's better to be aggressive, showing schools that we intend to be here once it all over.
True, but the media will be thrilled to dump on the Big12. All you will hear is "delusions of grandeur" and "inflated self-perception" and Nelson Muntz "Ha-Ha!". They won't target the ACC like that.

Oregon is only Oregon because of Nike. Washington is Colorado both good 20 to 30 years ago, not much since.

You cant guarentee that unless you know the family. And frankly it doesnt matter he makes millions a day, that isnt going away when he dies.
