That’s surprising. The guy I linked is usually in lockstep with Scheer and sometimes even ahead of him.
Fluguar was quoting Canzano. I think that Fluguar was just giving an opinion on Canzano’s “wish”.

Kliavkoff can sell it as having the ‘potential’ to exceed the B12 numbers. The question is going to be how you measure exposure. There are rumors the coaches and ADs are dead set against any deal that relies heavily on streaming. And the university presidents will value their input in making their decisions.

The PAC and its media will sell a victory regardless.
I could see a deal that nets some current PAC schools around $22 million being sold as a “better deal than Big 12”. Gross revenue, unequal revenue sharing, unachievable performance bonuses, an average inflated due to back-end escalators on a longer deal (that both providers and schools know won’t likely occur due to out BIG out clause for schools) will be packaged to get a “win”

And the PAC media won’t care as long as they can champion it’s near Big 12 or better, and that the PAC didnt collapse at hands of B12. Worse yet, many PAC presidents won’t care

The PAC 12 will not get a deal that is apples to apples to the Big 12. The economic environment has changed since the Big 12 moved ahead of them in line. They don’t have an elite product to sell in any major revenue generating sports and their biggest brand names want out. They’ll end up with either mostly streaming and similar ish money or less streaming with way less money. It’s a terrible position to be in and it seems to get worse by the day. If I’m any team in that conference that has a legitimate chance to get out of there, I’m on the first train out of town.

And another headline. Not looking like the right environment for a massive deal:

ESPN headed for layoffs with ‘no sacred cows’: Who is most vulnerable?

Disney is doing massive layoffs company wide.

Makes Yormark look smarter every day
Yormark deserves credit for getting a deal done last fall.

But it wasn't a unique idea. Back in late 2020 another Big12 commissioner charged a group of Big12 leaders to approach ESPN/FOX about getting a deal done early. Even ahead of the Big10. Bowlsby might have been too far ahead of the game as the networks said no.

Who knows, that "No" might have been the push for OuT to SEC.

One could argue that ESPN knew that TX and OU were already on the way out. They probably thought the other teams would be headed to the AAC.

I work with big media companies and the layoff/hiring cycles in all economies most years are nuts. It seems entirely random who stays and goes. I’ll work with somebody amazing and think how crazy it is Disney or Sony let them go. Almost all my contacts now I know from multiple places they’ve been.

Or as Bowlsby insinuated, maybe ESPN had a better offer for OuT if they joined the SEC.

What's cheaper for ESPN?
  1. ESPN upping their SEC deal by $150M annually to create a new landing spot for OuT.
  2. Renew their Big12 deal which included OuT and it probably costing ESPN $250M annually.

He’s a tough listen. 12 minutes in and I learned more about coffee than the PAC’s media deal struggles.

Here at KnappShack Runs the Table we'll talk about fine brewed baby formula and PAC 12 media rights. All here at KnappShack Runs the Table and we aren't afraid to make mistakes at KnappShack Runs the Table either!

Now let me quote some other dude's info to get us started at KnappShack Runs the Table
