Realignment Megathread (All The Moves)

Not particularly important unless you think a P2 invite is contingent on him being President/CEO of Miami
It doesn’t, but my point is it might not matter what his goal is because he might not be around. Kinda like University of Iowa and Hancher.

Been watching a lot of World Cup. Cabo Verde, a small island off of Africa, got draws against powerhouse Spain and against a very good Uruguay team. It is great to see the little guy have success, like the NCAA basketball tournament. Teams like Italy are at home. If this was the NCAA, for football, I can just see the SEC and Big 10 complaining of a Cabo Verde team making it versus a 4 loss Big 10/SEC team. Troy in baseball is another example. If they break away (including if the P4 break away which I hope doesn't happen either even with ISU in it), you aren't going to see these stories in all of the college sports.

This news will likely have realignment implications especially if a deep pocketed buyer like Google, Apple, Amazon or Netflix acquires NBCUniversal as a result of this spinoff. This news is probably good for the B12 and ISU:

This column perfectly describes the avoidable obstacles facing college sports. The dip$hit Michigan President would rather maintain his existing competitive advantage rather than support PCSA which would have increased the odds of retaining May and at least double their existing revenues while maintaining a significant competitive financial advantage. The boys from Fox and Petitti has got this dimwit and other B10 Presidents completely brainwashed:

Nothing we didn’t know about the current landscape…

…But you have a young rising star, fresh off a natty at a wealthy school with a rich basketball history…and he’s disillusioned.

Yeah those comments don’t mean what you think they do. Michigan built the team based on the portal and NIL. Michaign has unlimited NIL money (we refer to this as the Michigan Money Cannon) and are a premier destination. There is a lot of smoke that Dusty was gonna get hit with some NCAA sanctions but also internally he was looking for the NBA as his ultimate goal and this was his dream.

Guy went from coaching at FAU to winning a Natty and now the coach for the NBA in 3 years. He wants to coach, he doesn’t want to have to recruit at the level that you do at Michigan. It’s not about having more resources, for all intents he had unlimited resources at Michigan and knew how to use them. Mavs job is just simply too good of an opportunity to pass up

When you've got Cooper Flagg and a bunch of draft capital, it's a real hard gig to pass up.

It's not like he took the Clippers or Wizards job.

As long as college basketball continues to be the wild, wild west, we're going to see lots of coaches try to make the jump.

Yep especially with the one and dones in addition to the transfers. Some coaches like Cal and Scheyer like that aspect of the game, others hate it and will jump to the NBA if given the opportunity because it’s the NBA after all. Coaching may be similar but all the offseason stuff is radially different

Those comments don't mean what you think they do? LOL, WTF is that?

Not surprisingly, you missed the primary point of the Athletic's column which was addressing the following self-serving BS from the Michigan President especially given that PCSA passage would better enable media revenue growth for Michigan and the rest of FBS while Michigan maintains significant media revenue advantages.

The primary point of the Athletic's column wasn't about May's reasons for leaving:

In the next breath, Grasso voiced Michigan’s objections to the Protect College Sports Act, a bill that is intended to address those very problems. While acknowledging that college sports are in “dire need of clarity and equitable reform,” Grasso echoed the stance of the Big Ten and the SEC, which do not support the legislation. “We want what’s best for the Big Ten and for Michigan,” Grasso said. “We are not going to sacrifice the competitive advantage that we have built for more than a century.”

You get that the revenue isn’t the point for Michigan right? They don’t need growth or additional funds due to the aforementioned money cannon. There is zero reason for Michigan to support the bill. That’s like asking Google to support a bill that would help their competition when they are on top of search engines.

It’s incredibly self serving but it’s also the job of the Michaign president to do what’s best for the University itself. Not college athletics at large

Its tough for him to understand this concept. Not sure how though. Michigan has theirs and why would they care about anyone else?

Yeah no one should shy away from the selfish or self serving labels but that’s also legit the job of the university president and AD to be concerned about what happens at their university
