Man, back when I thought a 4 year old thread bump was an old bump, now we have 10 year bump.
I was watching the UNI game and thought it was Randy but couldnt believe he was still reffing (worked for him at ISU in late 90s). So I went to the old Google machine and put his name in and one of the results was this thread. Got lazy and asked the question here.
And another bump.
Randy is reffing the Murray State-Drake game currently. My wife and I both reffed for him in the early 2000s and were happy to see him still officiating tonight.
Had the privilege of being one of his "ice b*tches" that ran intramural hockey and broomball because he didn't have experience in either sport. The guy is a fantastic coach of the profession.

From 2006-2009 I would ref pretty much everything. Was always interesting when I’d ref a team for bball and then see the same team again later in the evening at the ice arena for broomball
Rec Services paid me to do a job I likely would have done for free. The first year you had to actually do a bit of work and Randy challenged you if he thought there was something there. If you proved you could do a solid job your contact info went to every AD in the area and you could really make a good gig doing middle and high school games.
I'm not sure I've ever had a better job than supervising intramurals. Walk around. Shoot the **** with people. Meet a shitload more people. Spend an inordinate amount of time watching the women's A league. Figure out half of the most talented ones there weren't into dudes. Try and recruit them to your coed teams. Fail on all fronts. Good times.

Believe his kids go to the Ankeny school district as we’ve seen him at conferences and other events before.
