We'll do the mall one but we won't have a car so getting to Dulles will be problematic. I guess the subway will go out there in the next year or two.

Wxman will be mad at me but I would hit the natural history museum in the mall (what the JH kids liked most), there is one with the First Lady dresses if the wife and daughters are into that. I would probably split up and catch a couple different ones due to interest. The flight one was ok, but I’m not into that as much.

Holocaust one will take time, and you won’t have enough no matter how much you allot. It is a must, IMO, though.

If you like politics, and need a work out, go to the White House and just find your way to the front door. I heard the Pres himself answers the door if you ring the doorbell on the right side of the door. May even give you free room and meals for a night or two.

@wxman1 comments on APA 6th edition reminded me of the ongoing conflict between our writers, who followed the GPO (Federal) Style Manual, and our public affairs office that religiously followed APA. Oh, and throw in the Army's own way of doing things (because Army!) and it was a little chaotic.

The nice thing for me was that for most of my career we had positions there for writer editors who polished up our published writings and official correspondence. I was an okay business writer but with their edits my stuff improved to pretty good, maybe like from C+ to B+. Of course, over time they decided these editor positions were not worthy of support and gradually eliminated them. Stupid move in an organization like the Corps of Engineers that is populated with folks better at writing calcs than writing prose.

Highlight of my writing was an editorial that got published under my bosses name in the Star Tribune. It was pretty good. I also got her in trouble when a pissed of Senator called the three-star general in charge of the Corps to complain. When you refute a bunch of local lies, a Senator that has endorsed those lies will turn on you in a heartbeat. Fortunately she did not get in "deep" trouble because commanders further down the food chain did not wimp out on her. At our regional level she had more respect within the organization than the Senator who is pretty much a paper tiger.

Did bdk get 86ed?
His last post as Playboi Carti was April 18. I have no idea if he changed again. Not sure what he does to get himself banned but I don't spend much time in the cave. I don't know if he did either but I have never seen him post anything too offensive anywhere else.

It is an adjustment. My employer is paying for it as long as I get at least a B so I figured I would give it a a shot. I am doing both online and in-person but the plan is to mostly be in person. Different programs/schools have different entry requirements. I went to Mount Mercy because it did not have any entry requirements, was a little closer to home and work and was not downtown so parking was much easier. The distance and parking are little things but after being at work all day and maybe seeing the family very briefly I did not want to have to deal with traffic and finding a place to park. Same with when class is over at 9:30PM. I want to get home.

The U of I has options to waive the GMAT but it is mostly based off of undergrad GPA and I did not meet the cutoff. Plus it was the U of I.

Time-They claim that you will need to spend at least the same amount of time outside of class as you do in class. I find that to be on the low end but I am not a smart man so it takes me a little more plus some concentration issues that I have always had. As I said it has been an adjustment. Most weeks I am doing HW from when the kids go down around 8 until midnight at least a couple of nights a week. That takes away a lot of free time. I have had friends both male and female do it with babies and I have no idea how they pulled it off but they did so take that for what it's worth.

My biggest frustrations have come with nit picky stuff and a lot of this is just my personality but that kind of crap bugs the living day lights out of me. So when I get a paper back that the professor is pointing out every little way I did not meet APA 6th edition I get agitated. Just my opinion that a professional MBA program with people that are working 8+ hours a day plus families and what not and 90%+ will never go on to a doctoral program should have a little more slack.

Pretty much every program now days gives you the opportunity to take 5-10 years to complete it so if you just want to take a class or two a year that is fine. I don't plan to take a summer class next year and may drop a few others. An MBA is not a prereq for whatever my next position will be but it would obviously help me.

Feel free to PM me with anything else.

I may do so if things progress. Right now it's just general conversation and no real idea of what "more" looks like - a degree, certification, etc. My brief googling last night made it look the same - a variety of admissions standards, in person/online, etc. Was curious how it was going for you so far.

The natural history museum is on the list but is a maybe. I did hear the 1st lady dresses exhibit is pretty good. It's in the same museum as the Star Spangled Banner.

Having been there before, I know I'll cry when I see the WW1 and WW2 stuff at Air and Space, I'll sob when I leave the Lincoln Memorial, I'll cry at the Vietnam Wall, I'll cry at the WW2 and Korean War Memorials and I'll cry at the beauty of the White House. Also, I know I'll cry when I see the tattered Francis Scott Key flag, I'll cry when I see the changing of the guard, I'll cry when I see the eternal flame at the Kennedy grave sight, I'll cry at the Marines Momument, I'll cry at the MLK Monument, I'll cry when I see the Declaration of Independence, and I'll cry at the Holocaust Museum. Sounds like the best trip ever, doesn't it.

I agree that the natural history museum and national history museums are cool. Also be sure to check out the Wheaton metro station.

If you wait a year and decide to go into pre-med at UW, you could possibly go to classes with my daughter. It's the one school she still wants to do an official tour at.

Sounds like you'll need to take that onion out of your shirt pocket, or that alligator clamp off your ...um whatever.

It was a perfect night for volleyball last night. I showed up early to get a court because I knew it would be busy due to the holiday. We usually play at 6ish and at 6:10 I was the only one there so I was getting worried that nobody would show up but it was just a late arriving crowd. We didn't quite have enough people for two full teams so a father-daughter-son-in-law that were sitting near us asked if they could join. We said yes of course and I'm going to admit, I was certainly questioning the father's volleyball abilities and boy was I wrong. He was in his mid-to-upper 50's and was only wearing a camo hat, jeans, and a bit of a beer gut. He also played every game with a cigarette in his mouth. This guy was by far the best player of the three that joined us and he was probably top 5 out of everyone that was there last night. I guess I should remember to not judge a book by its cover. I had two plays that I was especially proud of. I am 6' 4" so I'm most comfortable up front but the problem is I'm not coordinated enough to time my jump well enough to spike it or block it with much consistency. On one particular play it all came together and the ball was set perfectly and I timed my jump well and had the best spike of my life. I felt pretty good about it until the next play I mistimed my jump and got hit in the face with the ball. That brought me back to reality a bit. The other play happened on a serve. The guy serving from the other team had a tendency to serve it directly at a person's head so either you had to back up and hit it or hope it was going to go out. After I hit two straight returns out of the court I got fed up with it and sure enough he hit it to the exact same spot, my head, and I could tell if was definitely going to be in play but I wasn't going to be able to back up fast enough to return it cleanly. So, I channeled my inner FIFA and did a good old fashioned header and miraculously it was a perfect set for my teammate who spiked it and scored the point. I'm pretty sure if ESPN was there it would have made SportsCenter's Top 10 but I suppose I'll just have to life with the 'what if'.

Side note #1: A lot of the people I play volleyball with work in Jackson, Mn and the big story among them was that a rendering truck had taken the curve coming in to town too fast and spilled its contents all over the road. There were evidently guts and heads and other various hog body parts all over the road and they said it was the worst smell they had ever experienced. The truck driver didn't know it had happened until the police pulled him over at the other end of town and explained to him the mess he just made. I would not want to be the one responsible for cleaning that up.

Side note #2: There is a no wake ordinance in effect on all of the Okoboji lakes because of the insane amounts of rain we have had and the resulting high lake level. It was like life was in slow motion looking out across the lake yesterday. There were more boats out than usual because of the holiday but instead of everybody ripping around and tubing, skiing, etc. everyone was just putting along at 5mph. It was almost surreal. I'm sure many of the out-of-towners were pretty disappointed when they got to town this week and found out they couldn't use their boats.

Dang we're going to have to keep this kid around just for his sports updates that was CGesqe . Nice job RunninMan.
