My econ professor is the biggest **** ever. He's canceled class 2 times without sending a email or anything. How ******* hard is it to send an email saying no class today?
The person that we used to trade cat-sitting chores with here in town has moved out of range. We would go over to feed Mei-Mei, take care of the litter box, and play with her to keep her from being too lonely when our friend was traveling, and she did the same for us. We always thought we got the better end of the deal, but she disagreed. She doesn't have cable, and was a pastor in town. She would bring her lunch over every day, and have lunch with the cats & watch HGTV and similar channels. She loved it. The cats loved her too.Depends on if it is volunteer or paid position.All the money she has made in the last 2 years has been from pet sitting/dog walking.
PapaLew's sister will be staying up here when we leave town later this week. But if she's not available we WILL need someone in the future. Only problem is, that person needs to be able to drive out here. No walking duties, but oh, the litter boxes...
My first baby was the only middle of the night hospital admission and at least then that was admission in emergency at Mercy in DM. Place was filled with cops. Woman checking me in said they had four patients and I was the only one without a gunshot wound.
This has to be the weirdest photo I have ever seen. So much bizarre stuff going on.....
She has some pretty good stories. Like the rival gangs sitting across from each other, while their buddies get their gunshot wounds treated.
I don't think any photo will ever top the Teletubbies gif from the KU game in the bizarre stuff going on category...
That is pretty inexcusable. Even someone without power can still probably send email with a phone. So many students commuting for nothing.
My son is a TA and his prof never cancels. Last minute emergency he makes son do it. Otherwise lines up another prof.
That kid is getting down!
Addendum: we have paid vet students to cat-sit in the past, particularly when we had one that was on daily meds for hypertension.
That is more a broadlawns type situation. I used to like mercy for the "scenery". When I was younger, at the end I figured I was old enough to be their dad.

First of all, fantastic story. I had a slightly similar experience in high school.
I was a freshman and was with some friends in a neighboring town when a party got busted. We all scattered. It's about 10:00pm on a Saturday night and, of course, cell phones weren't a thing yet. Knowing I couldn't return to the car without being picked up, I decided to go to my sister's boyfriend's house about half a mile away. He was 18 (pretty sure he was a drop-out - he was a dirtball at the very least) and lived with a friend who I'd met once before.
I get to his house. It's as crappy as I remember it. I see lights on and hear a lot of noise so I know someone's home. I knock on the door and things get really quiet. He looks at me through the window and let's me inside. I walk in and there were about 7 dudes that looked they were out on parole, two bongs, a bunch of empty bottles and a cloud of smoke. I pause at the door while that little voice in my head started screaming, "Are you looking at the same thing I'm looking at? Turn around now you moron!"
Of course I didn't listen.
I debated leaving, but I really didn't have anywhere else to go and calling my parents wasn't a good option. I wasn't supposed to have been where I was and I didn't feel like jeopardizing my future social outings. I had no idea how to reach my friends that I went to the party with, and I had no idea if any of them got busted.
I asked if someone could give me a lift back to my hometown and drop me off at my car. Of course, nobody was in a rush to leave their party and I kept getting a bunch of "someone will run you over there in a little bit" and "Mike's gotta go that way, he'll drop you off". An hour passes and I'm getting nervous. I didn't really have a set curfew, but it was pretty much understood that I needed to be home by 11:00, midnight at the latest. I ask my sister's boyfriend again and he starts in with the whole "hey, man, what's the rush" thing.
Right about that time, I hear some yelling coming from the living room. There's a broken bottle on the floor and two of the guys are having a stand-off between me and the door. One guy throws a swing at another guy and that is followed by about 5 minutes of complete chaos. A tv gets broken, a table gets broken, both bongs get shattered, one dude ends up bleeding profusely from his eyebrow, and another gets his shirt ripped. I tried to stay out of it, but it was like a barroom brawl in a cramped little living room. I ended up getting knocked back against a couple cd towers and took them out. I was probably 6'2" 160 at the time.
The guy that started the whole ordeal is still amped up. He screams some profanities and then kicks the front door open, knocking it off one of its hinges. My sister's boyfriend apparently sobered up enough to realize that his girlfriend's brother getting roughed up was not a good look for him and drove me back to my home town about 3 minutes later. During the entire drive, he's all "You're not gonna tell your sister about this, right? We're cool, right?"
I ended up getting home about 11:45 and never had any issue with my parents. My dad did wake me up at 5:30 the next morning for chores, though. It was his go-to punishment when he knew I'd been out messing around.
I'll say that during the fight, I wouldn't have been surprised to have seen a knife get pulled out, but it thankfully never happened. I have since learned to trust my instincts about a sketchy setting and just say "nope".
The story of SC and the vixen....
It was 1981, I had just been dumped by the GF of two years (she married another guy a few months later). I was at the Runway in Fort Dodge - a dance club - and saw a table full of girls having a great time. There was a VERY cute blond, laughing, vivacious, full of life. I decided I had to meet her.
So I went over and asked her to dance. (She later confessed that she had seen me there many times, and always secretly hoped that I would ask her to dance....back in the days of disco I was sort of the king of the dance floor.) We danced and talked all night. At closing time I wanted to spend some more time with her, so I asked her if she would come to my apartment. (I promised to be a complete gentleman, which I was.) She informed me that she had ridden together with these other girls, and I said, well, they can come too.
So we all head over to my place. My roommate at the time was the morning DJ on K92 and he was just getting up to go to work. So he entertained her friends, and we started getting to know each other. It occurred to me that I had met someone who really liked me - for who I am - and that was pretty cool.
Finally about 6:00AM she informs me that she has to leave, as she is moving to Colorado THAT VERY DAY. She had a little girl - had gotten pregnant her senior year of high school - and there was a guy from her hometown living in Colorado, he had asked her to come live with him. I knew the guy, wasn't sure he was exactly a great father figure (or husband), but kept my mouth shut.
So we parted. I went to work, with a very heavy heart. About 10AM a girl calls Rick on the request line and asks him to play a song for me, call "When Will I See You Again" by the THree Degrees. Well, needless too say, my heart broke a little bit.
Now, fast forward to 2011. Thirty years later. We had both been married, had kids, lived our lives, etc. My divorce was final on May 24, and on June 4, I got a message on Facebook from the vixen (of course I didn't call her that then!). It was just like opening the front door during a storm arriving - all those memories, of that one night, came rushing back to me in a flurry. Of course I answered her post. It turned out she was divorcing her husband, as he had basically been a total disaster. Too much detail to go into, but she had lived a very difficult life for 30 years.
Anyway.....things progressed, and here we are, both so very thankful that we found that special someone. I never thought it would happen, in fact I was quite sure after my divorce that I would not remarry. That didn't last long!!!!

I suppose it didn’t help to have water break at midnight on Friday night when there was also a major accident occupying other DM emergency rooms.
We have only had class 8 times too. I want to report him but idk what that will do. My friend had him last semester and said this is nothing new...
Usually even the worst people will allow you to do your job if you just do it and don't ask unneeded questions. Worst I had was working some car races where two drivers crews went after each other after a wreck. Got the one looked over, went to the second and got rushed by the first ones crew. As I was putting the second one (either 17 or 18 years old)in, I had turned around and caught a punch to the back of the head from an idiot swinging at the kid. Got mad and finished my job and let it die. Later I asked who the dbag was and it was our former governors newphew. I was also livid with one of the other EMTs, he cowered in the rig and watched me deal with this and wouldn't even open the back door to help pull the kid in.
This is DMAAC? Probably won’t help a lot. Do you know if he is an adjunct prof (basically has another job and does this on the side)? I think they have a lot of those. If nothing else, rip him in the course evaluation. Tests better be easy if he never teaches.
