The brass player in me is all "Dafuq would you let your kid play anything but brass?"![]()
I played trumpet and my wife played flute. I like asking her why she'd choose to play an instrument nobody can hear.

Here’s a question for the ladies here, my wife and daughter both do this but the three males don’t and it drives me batty. The wife got an Alexa and she will play that with the tv going and then walk over and start playing stuff on the computer so there is cluttered noise coming from everywhere. Daughter does this too, not sure how they listen to it all
My wife played clarinet. Other than making woody jokes and some good jazz/blues stuff it's not that useful. #LowBrass4Life
Band concert was a success. Daughter and her friend did a duet which was short but very clean sounding. Her friend started it out by playing the Star Spangled Banner as a sax solo. Not perfect, but pretty darn good and really ambitious.
Their band instructor encourages them to try things outside of their comfort zone, which I love.
My daughter plays clarinet, but really wants to play violin. Unfortunately, our school district doesn't have orchestra, so we'd have to enroll her elsewhere or do private lessons to accomplish that.
Her cousin plays violin and is pretty good. My daughter has the right mindset to succeed with a difficult instrument, so I'm torn with how to proceed. I'm a sucker for Vivaldi and would love to see her pursue a string instrument. Really wish we had the option at her middle school next year.
My daughter was complaining about the trumpets being so loud the other day. If there's one constant in every band it's the contempt that woodwinds hold for the brass section.
Since Justin Timberlake was brought up last night, I'll cash in my man card a bit and admit that I don't mind a few of his songs that my daughter has played. I've also liked him in a few different movies and on talk show interviews.
Plus he gave the world

So far in 5th and 6th grade band for the 12yr old there is a very large disproportionate number of trumpets to the rest of the band. #trumpetsstink
WTF is going on in here? Why do I keep getting interrupted while I'm typing posts? Sometimes the cursor just disappears, and then I have to click the mouse again to get it back. I've had to do it four times while typing this post alone. Also, the cursor keeps flickering like a short-circuiting robot or something.

There are some serious paranoid people in car threads. I've found those that are thinking they are getting screwed, are usually those that are trying to hose people over themselves. When my vehicles have issues that I know of, I will point them out. I don't like having issues come back on me.
And vice versa....as an ex-trumpet player myself, it was always comforting to know that we could make more noise than any other instrument in the band. Woodwinds? Pfftttt......they got nothing.
Nah. We like our neighbors.![]()
