Another busy day at work today. It was nice to see the sun out though.

So how did the sporting events turn out for the BC and Birdy families?

Man RTT was slow this weekend, it will be good when everybody gets back to work so they have time to post;).

Not exactly sure.

Finished with a 26-0 win. Biggest thing at game was listening to one of their assistant coaches (who happens to be HS HC) cursing at his team. These are 3/4 grade kids, no reason for that.

Won one, lost two. At a big disadvantage being on the team we are on. Our daughter just wanted to play local DSM tournaments. Seems like they filled their showcase teams first, then threw any leftovers/filled spots with girls who should not be out there on the local team. But it is more practice and play time than if we would have done our school fall league, so have to take the positive in that.

New furnace going in right now. Down to 64 in the house this morning not terrible but not good with a new born and MrsWx has a preferred temp range of 70-78 so not good there either.

My good friend asked me to be his best man (he was mine). Not a clue what we will do for the bachelor party but I am thinking Chicago.

When is the wedding? Is he similar to the one guy with the bachelor party thread?

Also, he's correct. Because people really, really are the worst. <3 And people who don't parent their kids piss me off.
My good friend had a neighbor couple who NEVER disciplined their two boys. Buddy's nickname for the older one was Satan. Example: Buddy gets a new car and is showing it to said neighbor. Satan climbs in through the side door and starts walking on the seats. Dad says zero. Buddy says, "Satan, quit walking on my seats, you'll get them dirty!" Satan says, "So what. They're gonna get dirty sometime anyway." Dad says zip, zero, nada.

As an aside, the boys both turned out to be fine young men. But if I had heard they were incarcerated, it would not have surprised me.

Only movie I ever walked out of
With a title like that, what would make you pay to go in the first place?? I have actually walked out of two. "The Walking Dead" (1995 Vietnam war movie), and "Gods and Generals" which had a good cast including Bruce Boxleitner, Jeff Daniels, and one of my favorites, Robert Duvall.

we tend to eat a lot of pork as well. Think we are doing pork shoulder next weekend for carnitas/pulled pork. I will have to try that pork tenderloin recipe - that sounds really good!
It's weird -- a pork shoulder is actually called a pork butt. I wonder if it's because a pork butt is actually called a ham.

It's so odd to me. We do "gentle disciplining" and attachment parenting in our house, so it's not like I'm smacking my kids to tell them "no" to stuff. We use empathy and explanations and removal from the situation as some of the different tools to deal with them. I don't understand parents who don't do ANYTHING - you can still discipline them without beating them.

We know a couple who have never disciplined their kid (only child, but I don't think that's the issue), and now that kid is feral. Won't listen to anyone, gets in all kinds of trouble at school, hits everyone, etc. Now they wring their hands and wonder how to fix the situation - but it's likely too late now. It makes me sad for the kid.

Our family sporting event was pretty interesting. 6th grade girl had her year-end tennis tournament. As you might expect, it wasn't totally organized. She was in a 5 player bracket. The first girl didn't show up. The second girl she was supposed to play (had a bye first round) also didn't show up so she was in the championship bracket. Then they realized that another bracket of similar skill level had a similar predicament so they moved a girl from that bracket into my daughter's bracket so she was no longer in the championship. She won that match so she was in the championship but lost that match. This daughter doesn't let anything bother her and she smiled the whole time. Also, the cheeseburger and fries from the food truck were very good.

I plan to be a perfect parent :D

I will say my parents used threats a lot that they never followed through on - at least with my younger siblings. That would always drive me nuts. 78 "last warnings". DH and I discovered last summer that we can be pretty strict "parents" for about 48 hours. Oldest niece decided to see if our boundaries were as loose as grandma's.......they were not. Whining did not get very far. I think I had told the story of older niece being mean and making younger niece cry, then trying to play me against DH and DH then very nicely "played" older niece. I think DH would be a good father. I hope our kids wouldn't be bratty. I don't like bratty kids.

I kept reading how great Kung Fu Hustle was. The opening sequence was entertaining then it just got stupid.

Got MBB tickets ordered for 2 break games through the JCC. All of us may not make it to both, the younger ones have about a 1 game max for basketball. Their attention span is only one Clone cone long. ;) Although now the 6yr old likes to watch the cheerleaders, that kept her entertained the last volleyball match we went to.

we were going to do apple crisp but I think we're going to make a small peach crisp instead to help clear out the freezer space. DH woke up with a cold (shouldn't be from me at this point) and has requested such.

What is your pork recipe? I need to use our crockpot more.

I will walk to your house for ANY crisp. (If it's apple, hopefully you will have some extra sharp cheddar cheese to top it with.)

Your 6 year-old will be fine. We have similar likes, and I turned out okay-ish.

We have a 6 year old granddaughter who is approaching that area. Her parents (Mom is our oldest, Jodie) did not believe in physical discipline in any way. Of course kids push boundaries constantly, that's what they do......parents have to set limits and keep them. Otherwise, the child learns there are no repercussions for bad behavior.

I'm not a perfect Dad (who is?), but we are very fortunate that our girls turned out so awesome. Did they get spanked? Oh yeah, a few times. But firmness and zero tolerance might be the key. I'm with you, @Angie.....I get to the point where I want to go up to parents in the store and actually lecture them on how bad they are. But then I realize that it won't do much good.

Husband's sister and her creepy second husband are worst parents ever. Crazy too much discipline on oldest three kids from first marriage, zero discipline on kid from second marriage.

They kicked the oldest two kids out of the house before they were 18, and they drifted between their alcoholic, but loving father and my evil MIL. Oldest kid I think is ok, he moved half a country away from them all as soon as he could. Next oldest had a kid at 15, multiple drug and suicide issues. Still with her grandmother, every day a screaming match. Third kid just keeps his mouth shut, puts up with their unreasonable demands, gives up all kinds of opportunities in school because at age 15, he is responsible for child care of the little brother, all household chores, and cooking. Heard his sister ask him if their mom is still a screaming crazy ***** and stepdad is still a psycho tyrant, and he confirmed.

But the seven year son of second marriage takes the cake. Never disciplined, must be center of all attention. Hell on wheels. But even he has to see a psychiatrist for anxiety issues. The girl has a lengthy list, with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and who knows what else. But the youngest kid reminds me of Dumbledore telling the Dursleys how they abused Dudley through the spoiling and lack of discipline.
