Go check out places like The Knot and Babycenter. I bet you could find a nice forum about wedding planning. :) I just looked on babycenter and there are 5,000 groups (message boards) just on pregnancy. That doesn't include 2,500 groups on GETTING pregnant. Add in a group for every.single.little.thing and that is a lot of them. That is just one site.
:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I'm a male and I even know cash bars are a no no. I don't even wanna go to a wedding if it's a cash bar.

So who did the editing? My money's on Ringman...
Ha--I cut down my original message, but Ring provided the bolding. I just checked the Getting Pregnant board and the threads went like this (remember, I warned people it wasn't what they thought) Guys just have no clue . . .

Almost as bad is putting your registry anywhere included in the invite.

I almost committed both faux pas. In-laws talked us into beer and wine which I will admit was a good decision. But I put the registry in anyway. I don't agree with the logic that it's somehow better to "just ask someone close to the couple/google it". That's more work for me. Just stick it in there. Don't make me go hunt it down.

how should I feel that I understand all of those titles?

In fairness to me, the wedding board I was on also had a lot of TTC/baby thread and like CF, whatever was popular came up on the main board, so you started picking up on the acronyms.

Go check them out, I dare you. I bet they aren't as fun as you would think. ;)

I'm glad message boards didn't exist when I was pregnant. Bad enough to hear all the horror stories from mother, mil & aunts, not to mention all of your friends & coworkers that already have kids, plus several dozen total strangers in restaurants, at the post office, in the grocery store...I have NO desire to see how much "advice" is in those forums.

Yeah, you have to read them with a more "for entertainment only" attitude. Lots of crazy people with their own opinions (hmm, sound familiar?).

We sure as hell aren't paying for an open bar.

The Elks lodge had a bar in it. They allowed us to purchase a keg, which was free to our guests. The bar itself (for wine & spirits) was a cash bar. One son's inlaws had an open bar for 1 hour, then cash bar after that. I don't recall any complaints about either. I guess it surprises me that people EXPECT large quantities of free alcohol. No wonder people are pricing out weddings in the tens of thousands of dollars.

If this is what people are expecting, then I don't expect them to come.
