It's simply not realistic to expect a basketball coach to have the same taste in ties Boxster does.

Misinterpreted this stupid thread...thought it was about his “connections” with potential players, h.s. coaches, club teams, etc. Wardrobe? Meh...

I had a buddy who was a high school coach up here. I went to one of his games and was surprised that he was wearing a tie that was the other team's colors. Someone told me that he does that for every game. He feels that it gives him and his team a psychological advantage. Something like "We aren't intimidated by you. We'll even welcome you as we are kicking your ass." The guy is a former All-American so I think he knows a thing or two about basketball.

On a related note, did they ever say why both benches were wearing matching (greenish) ties at the last game? Mrs. Velo asked me but I never heard. Was this a Jimmy V or Coaches for Cancer type of thing?

I think some of the ties have been related to various causes that he supports (my wife noted during a recent game that both Prohm's and the opposing coach's ties were identical (no idea why she noticed that)).

I think it had something to with promoting literacy.

We do that at tailgates. Always try to have some food and drinks that relate to the opponent. Worst one was a Leatherneck for Western Illinois (as I recall, it was pretty much rum and tabasco). Best ones are when we devour Hok wings or frog legs!

They were handing out lime green wristbands for some literacy advocacy effort (ironically, I didn't bother to read their sign), so I think the ties may have had something to with that.

FOUND IT on google images! I love this guy. This has "my son just got me this tie for Christmas and I don't care what you all think, I'm gonna wear it because it'll make him giggle" wrote all over it.

Thanks to this thread, we now have this great story about Prohm as a father. Very heart-warming on Valentine's Day.

Might be petty, but I've noticed in multiple games that Prohm isn't wearing any Cardinal and/or Gold . Now, usually this is covered with some kind of tie, and I'd think it'd go without saying that's part of your game day wardrobe. It actually drove me nuts in the game at Kansas that he was wearing a BLUE tie, who does that? I saw against TCU it was some sort of Lime Green. It may be petty but I really can't grasp the idea of not sporting the colors in some way. Thought I'd check and see if there was some story behind it, maybe the ties are some kind of fundraiser/awareness thing.

Not firmly entrenched.

Is there a rule that would prevent Prohm and his assistants from dressing like KISS.

Beats the heck out of wearing ties that aren't team colors.

Lets just be glad he has employed the services of a tailor this year. He used to look like a kid who had to wear his dad's suit to church or something.
