Permanent Christmas lights

I just got done putting Govee Permanent outdoor lights pro on my house. Did it myself and if you're handy at all you can do it. I paid $379 on Amazon a few weeks ago when it was on sale and another $45 for brackets you can screw them in instead of the cheesy adhesive and got some special brackets for the peaks of my house. They look pretty sharp. Seen a guy on marketplace ad saying he'd put them up for $500 for up to 150' I think. Got a quote from an outfit 2 years ago to put permanent lights up and he wanted $3,700. I told him to GTFO.

Ranch or 2-story? How tall of a ladder did you need?

We have a ranch but live on a incline road heading north so the south side is basically a 2 story. I used a 7' step ladder, a werner up to 10' step ladder on part of the peaks and also have a 12-24' extension ladder where the slope makes the roof line higher and the top of the peaks.

Sam's Club has a doorbuster sale going on this set for $239 right now, I've got it in my online cart to buy later tonight. Glad to hear it worked out well for you.

Do you happen to have a link for the screw in brackets you got? I've read that the adhesive they come with doesn't hold all that well, and I don't want to have to get back up there on the roof to do it.

Sam's Club I think has the permanent light elites. The reason why I went with the permanent lights pro is because you can cut them and splice in plugs if you have a run running out of room before you run out of lights. For example, on my one peak I needed 15 lights to fit correctly but they come in strands of 10 lights. If you get the pros you can cut a strand in half so it fits your area. I don't think you can do that with the Sam's Club and Costco models they sell... The elites I think is what Sam's Club and Costco sell.

The Govee Permanent Light Pro's I got were the 150' length.

I am not sure how to link to what I got off of amazon because the link might be with my account and not show up here but here is what to search on amazon.

Mounting brackets - 80 pack mounting brackets for Govee H706/H706 Pro Permanent outdoor lights, light clips mounting brackets

Gable peak mounts - Gable peak mount for pro Govee Outdoor permanent outdoor lights

I am real happy with them. You can customize the lights in all sorts of ways. Right now I have it in motion with 2/3 of it showing cardinal and gold and the other 1/3 showing green and yellow... LOL

I have been thinking about this...some friends have encouraged me to go with the Enbrighten brand...anyone here have experience with that brand?

What does something like this cost on average in the Des Moines metro.

My wife and I got 9" spaced LED trim lights for the whole front and side of the house.

$4,242.00 in December 2023

Everything. Lights. Control box. Installation. Not sure if you want the service or just the equipment.

Yeah not cheap but...

Very happy with them. Uses very little power. Easy to control from your phone. Wired and colored in a clever way where you can't see them from the street/during daylight.

She likes to theme it throughout the year. I've got red and yellow up right now.

:)

Happy to refer you to my sales contact there if interested.

We got a quote from Trim light this spring, to do the front of the house only it was something like $8 grand, to do the entire house was double that. Only good thing was you paid no tax on the purchase because in Iowa they are considered safety lights, or at least that was what we were told. The price included going around the two windows in the front and the peak across the garage, LED lights, 12 inches apart and that included wiring in the module in the garage.

We bought a house with Jellyfish lights on them. Neighbors have told me the previous owner spent a lot on them. I enjoy them!

$4000.00 to get them installed? I think I'll continue to risk falling off a ladder and breaking my neck every year than spend that.

I want to like the Govee lights but I think they don't look great in person
Agreed, I liked the idea until I started to see them in person. Some brands/installations are better than others, but I’ve yet to see one that looks great.

It definitely has to do with the installation. It says in the manual that you should put them 3-8cm from the inside wall. I went with 5-6cm and made a template so they were the same distance everywhere. I've seen lights that could be govee or another brand where the guy put them towards the outside of the facia so 12-18" away from the wall and they don't look good at all to me. I also see some where the person installing them wasn't consistent in the placement and they look tacky. I took my time and made sure I had things measured out because I'm a OCD fussy bastard so wanted it done right. I am very happy with the result but it might very well not be for everyone I understand.

We had the Trimlights installed in 2021 and love them. Since then, a number of people in the neighborhood have installed the Govee lights, and every time I see their houses I am reminded how much better the Trimlights look. Yes, drastic price difference but you get what you pay for. The Govee pucks and cords are visible all day, but with Trimlight they color match the under side of your awning which makes them blend in amazingly well and you don’t know they are there unless they are on.
