Can we stop with the “this is the best we’ve ever had and we cannot expect any better talk?” Some might not know this, but Jim Walden and Donnie Duncan didn’t have the facilities, fan support, $$ that we have now, and they played a tougher schedule back then. It’s just a dumb comparison. That is all.

It’s all about $ and coaching . ISU can’t recruit against the big boys. 3 straight years of 40 of higher recruitment rankings. Coaching is all ISU had to make a difference and that appears to be gone now.

That’s fine, and I’m sure they had talented players, but programs aren’t measured by talent alone. You are measured by results. And this is the best stretch we have ever had with regards to wins, losses, and competing in conference play and it isn’t particularly close.

There are no ‘big boys’ in this conference anymore

We just need to look at Indiana. Remember during COVID it was us versus them in the cinderella story? Now they have 10 wins and are undefeated after losing their star QB to a transfer during that COVID season. We have to want to aim higher.

This. For the first time ever, we have a budget and facilities that are on par with the rest of the conference. We are on a level playing field for the first time ever. The ceiling is higher now.

We have the second largest stadium now in a 16 team league, and we fill it. That sentence would have seemed inconceivable just 10 years ago.

I have to agree, at a certain point we can't say Campbell has raised the standard and created a culture where we expect to win, while at the same time saying that 7-6 is a historically good season by our standards so years like 2021 were actually pretty good seasons if you think about it. I thought the whole point was to move on from our crappy past, so maybe we should stop looking at it as a barometer for success.

Wait a minute, are we going to ignore that Indiana was 9-27 the last three years.

Who are these “big boys” in the current Big 12 west?

Both can be true. We can be grateful the leaps and bounds the program has made the last 10 or so years, where winning games is expected rather than a surprise. That has raised expectations. And we can also expect the program to make the next big jump to be consistent conference title contenders.

Nobody likes to lose. But at least the program is at a place where fans are upset at this loss instead of expecting the loss during the coin toss
