I know it doesn't look good now and they're going to drop a seed line or two but I'm still bullish on this team on a neutral court in March, they just need to get healthy. I think the Big 12 tournament will be a nice clean slate for them and they historically play well at Hilton South so I still have a good feeling that they'll turn it around.

I'm going to disagree with this. We smoked TCU, then won a tough road game at UCF, followed by controlling Cincinnati and Colorado the entire 40 minutes.

Everything was on track until last Friday when Gilbert and Jones were ruled out. Jones looked like he's still recovering from the flu which could take a few more days.

You just hope this stuff stops happening at some point and we can have our entire team available for a solid stretch. Do that and we have Final 4 potential. Keep having injuries and illness 3 weeks from now and we won't make it past the first weekend.

I think it's pretty obvious our bench players cannot handle being put in a more important role.
Yeah, shouldn't have been surprised that Jones wouldn't be himself. I'd expect him to be 100% for Saturday.

As far as the bench, when the top 8 are all healthy, it's an outstanding bench, with typical Jones and Heise, especially the way Nate has been playing offensively. And Chatfield has been playing well. He didn't last night, but he wasn't alone.

I thought when they got it to 4 and 5 points there was kind of an 'Ok, we're good' vibe since they've pulled ahead in other games and finished it off in similar situations. Same with the last 4 of the first half.
The K-State game felt similar, like we were finally waking up. The crowd was in a frenzy when we cut it to 6 I think. Then 3 minutes later K-State pushed it back to 14.

I know we put away Arizona State in the last 5 minutes, but this just doesn't seem like a team that can sustain runs.

What's a 'decent' banner to you?
Either a Big 12 Season championship or a Final Four. I know many here are satisfied with occasional Sweet-16. But, after all the hype, many other (like myself) expect to eventually make the next step forward.

It just isn't going to happen this year. Something is broken on the team other than just injuries. Don't know what it is, but TJ isn't able to fix it for whatever reason.

Maybe a 4 seed. Better to have bad play now, good play in tourney.
Will be fun to watch.

I was having a good day until my daughter asked me who won lol....

I'm gonna binge watching Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul the rest of this week and take a few days off of sports.
Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad are cheerier content than ISU BB right now.

They sync up and look really good like coming back last night, and then just fall back into weirdness and unravel.

The ASU game was when I first started actually getting frustrated watching them. Like it's OK to just receive a pass and take a moment before even starting to dribble.

This is an overreaction thread, after all, so I'll reinject some doom and gloom.

This is why I have some optimism for tournament play. Having the team play like they were earlier in the season + having Heise knock down a couple three pointers a game will go a long way to determine how far ISU will advance in the NCAA tournament

I think the team will refocus for the tournaments. We've seen TJ's squads hit this wall around this time of year before. I'm optimistic they can refocus again this year
It doesn't bother me so much that Otz's teams do this, but rather that plenty of teams play hard and don't have the same problem. Houston plays really hard. They play better defense than Iowa State, in fact. So where are their end-of-season stumbles? Oh, right, they just wake up and run roughshod over one of the best conferences in basketball, despite being tired and banged up. I'm NOT saying Otz teams are weak, but Matt Campbell had to make adjustments to offseason workouts years into a successful tenure. I imagine there are changes that could be made to in-season practices and workouts as well

Jones has walking pneumonia, FYI. shouldn't linger, and he should be 100% in the next week or so. The issue is everything was out of sorts yesterday, even if there had been more aggressiveness on the boards and on defense. Foul trouble, injuries/illness, and inadequate effort is a deadly brew for any roster. But there's just no flow/continuity/trust between the various lineups right now, and the staff tried plenty of combinations last night. It's comforting to daydream about everyone being active the next three games and the team getting used to playing with...each other...again, but the reality is there just may not be enough time. And even if you think there is, Gilbert's situation seems very iffy to me. Otz said he "hope"s Gilbert can practice "late this week" and play Saturday. no longer sounds like they rested him out of precaution at Houston. How will his leg hold up over the next three weeks, even if they do win a couple games in the NCAA tournament?

The Big 12 tournament could very well reignite their confidence. Unfortunately, last year's team dominated the #1 team in the country to win that tournament, then proceeded to advance no further than a team that started Tristan Enaruna. Color me skeptical of a 180

We should’ve won last night regardless of injuries but it’s also disingenuous to say injuries haven’t been a key issue. It’s the common denominator of every single loss this season outside of Auburn.

We can still make an Elite 8 and a Final Four. It will be just as hard to reach those goals as it would be if we would’ve won the conference outright.

Curt's consistency has been a bit of an issue for longer than just him being sick. His game log over the last month has shown some pretty serious inconsistency:

I think this has truthfully been one of our bigger issues during our dip.

It's really the beauty of the tournament. Sure, the higher the seed the easier route in theory. But at the end of the day it's all about matchups and playing well when it matters most. Still plenty in front of us.

The Fran Fade is rubbing off onto TJ. This team is all brakes no gas. Back to 3-4 seed and S16 exit. The sky is falling, as they can't take care of the ball and don't value it. They'd rather think about Cancun come spring break.

The three bigs we have, they have the softest hands I have ever seen... Can't seem to hold on to the ball or catch anything without bobbling it.

We have some sort of weird thing going on as a program. It’s nothing but bad luck, but we’ve had great success since 2010 and have made 6 Sweet 16s. But yet we’ve never made it past that. Think of the times that haven’t gotten that far as often and how quite a few have lucked into an elite 8 or final 4.

Illinois had gone something like 20 years without a sweet 16 and got further than we have on their first try.

At some point, our luck will change.

Not sure why Enaruna has to catch a stray. He might be the most talented transfer(or player) of the TJ era.

Agree that the team needs to find some confidence, else I struggle to see how it plays anywhere near its ceiling, even if it gets healthy.
