Band made it to Orlando, 31 hours on the bus. Now time for some fun, they have tonight off then a full day tomorrow with practice at UCF, a performance at Sea World, then the performance at the official ISU Pep Rally, followed by free time at Sea World. Packed Game day then they get to enjoy Sunday at Universal studios. Then back on the bus back to Ames on Monday, 31 hours back before the new year. Go Cyclones.

Did they stop part way for the night in a hotel? Looking at google maps the trip is about 21 hours. Or are buses that slow?

No overnight stops. They have 2 driver changes and they had 2 stops for members to meet the busses if they did not want to come back to Ames. So I think in all they had like 4 or 5, one plus hour stops.

Sitting here at the dsm airport, lots of isu fans on my flight!!!

There were more Iowa State fans on our flight yesterday than I would have thought. We are in the team hotel so obviously a higher percent of fans than in most places. But still a lot.

When I was in high school we did the trek from central Iowa to Orlando on a charter bus to march at Disney. At that age it wasn't too bad. It sounds like my worst nightmare in my 40s.

if you want pure fun drive around the stadium area with fully black windows in a rental car, bullets will come flying and you can test your driving skills, milder event would be gatorland
lol

plan things far away from this stadium--the most generic venue anywhere
no bars/restaurants in this 'hood. lame tailgating. almost non-existent

Get in and get out

I'm a big fan of WonderWorks for "edu-tainment" of kids and adults. The building itself is awesome.

Not quite. The area around the stadium isn't a tourist destination like International Drive, but it isn't that bad.

For instance, there is an Indian Motorcycle dealership about 2 blocks from the stadium. And there is no where in Orlando that I prefer for BBQ than Priceless Ray's just north of the stadium.

As for tailgating, you obviously haven't attended ours . . . and I'm not sure we really want you there . . . shall we take a vote?

If you want bars/restaurants, go downtown, such as for the We Will event on Saturday morning on Wall Street, then take a shuttle to the stadium.

If you park at the stadium, it is much easier to get out than Jack Trice or even Hilton.

Milk District is a hip little area. Sideward Brewing has good beer, good sandwiches, boiled peanuts.
In the same neighborhood, Se7enbites is the best breakfast you will ever eat. A regular on DDD, it truly is amazing.

Just north of there in Audubon Park is Gideons Bakeshop, which is famous for their giant cookies. But unlike the Disney location, you won’t have to wait in line at this one at all.

Find a Kelly’s ice cream shop near you as well, it’s fantastic.

Drove past some nice places last night near my hotel that seemed to cater to local, young professional-types. It was just north of downtown on N. Orange between Virginia Dr. and Princeton St.

All of these were within a few blocks of each other:
  • White Wolf Cafe and Bar.
  • Better Than Sex - A Dessert Restaurant (I was tempted, but didn't go).
  • The Caboose Bar.
  • Washburn Imports (I think this is a comedy club).
  • The Florida Room.
  • The Lucky Lure.
  • Gnarly Barley.
