Rogers and Bobbit ask their linebackers to run sideline to sideline more than they ask them to run fit against a guard. Our LBs are really small. Stecker is listed at LB now, and so is the JUCO cornerback newcomer.

They are small compared to what we used to have, but we always had heavier and slower backers in the past. Seems JR wants them leaner, lighter and faster.Don’t feel like they are overly small relative to other teams.
Any guesses for who might start in that sam/nickel spot?
For sure, but it does seem like the staff spent most of its resources on the offensive and defensive lines so I can respect that.I do wish we were able to bring in more skill guys with real production at lower levels. Many seemed like they were full of unrealized potential at their last school, hoping/betting it clicks here.
Didn’t even know we had a locked on podcast. I know nails on a chalkboard Trent Condon is Iowa’s but I got no clue who this guy isHave a friend who listens to this numbnut. Best way to describe him, numbnut.

Since he is already 210lbs, that is a pretty safe bet. 225-230 by his RS Soph year. That 3rd LB is more of a safety in this system. 4 DL, 2 bigger linebackers, 1 smaller, faster LB, 4 DBs.
With Heacock we ran with 3 DL, 3LB and 5 DBs.
Stecker is pretty big at 6'-4". I'm guessing he ends up around 215-220lbs.
Absolutely, I am totally behind that philosophy! For sure, but it does seem like the staff spent most of its resources on the offensive and defensive lines so I can respect that.
It's gotta be hard to fill 30 minutes on iowa state every weekday. I try to listen to a few minutes, but he does say things or have subject lines that are click bait. But I'm sure he needs the click bait, more cyclones coverage is always good.Didn’t even know we had a locked on podcast. Yeah look at two title game team's main LB's :Don’t feel like they are overly small relative to other teams.
I think the clickbaity titles are LockedOns schtick. I do listen to a couple of their professional teams and most titles are like thatIt's gotta be hard to fill 30 minutes on iowa state every weekday. I try to listen to a few minutes, but he does say things or have subject lines that are click bait. But I'm sure he needs the click bait, more cyclones coverage is always good.
Then probably a rotation of willich, goodwin, schilmgen, exline at the mike and will![]()

He spoke about how the On3 ranking measured incremental impact of portal signees/losses on roster. So ISU losing 54 players to schools like PSU, UCLA, USC, Neb, etc was going to be a huge negative in the On3 ranking algorithm.Have a friend who listens to this numbnut. I believe 2nd most. Okie State signed more portal transfers than us (53 I believe). He spoke about how the On3 ranking measured incremental impact of portal signees/losses on roster. Don't know where the Cyclones ranked nationally in the number of portal kids signed, but at around 45 players we had to be near the most. CJR wasn't trying to plug holes or strategically upgrade the roster by jettisoning bottom of roster scholarship players.
CJR portal signees filled spots ranging from starting QB all the way down to the 85th scholarship player. He wasn't just signing kids projected to get snaps, he was also signing scout team players.
And he signed a lot of freshman/sophomore portal players who don't have college production.
Success for ISU in 2026 is about CJR finding portal players who talent is maximized in his O & D schemes. And if CJR staff can coach the players up!
You're right. Small compared to what we are used to at ISU though. We usually have guys that are 6'3"-6'4" and weigh 240+Don’t feel like they are overly small relative to other teams.
