Updated roster: 44 returnees, 57 newcomers
Excellent! - Ka'Mori Moore, Ryver Peppers, Stecker (listed @ LB), Holt & Rutledge in the OL. Coaches brought up Rutledge in the past, so very hopeful for him. Holt "higher rated" recruit, but no clue on him. He is from MO & it seems our staff has solid in-roads to that state. Not surprised Malone not on there, unless he didn't have eligibility (I'm not sure on that). Keeping Moore (another MO HS produce) is great - would like to have DL have strength & depth so we can exert our will along the lines of the Rams or Seattle in the pros. I'm aware they have elite players filling their ranks, but we raise our play under a good scheme there & it makes jobs easier for those on the back levels.

Dyllan Malone is in the portal with 4 years of eligibility remaining. Has been offered by Kilgore College(JC in Texas)

If they allowed unlimited eligibility they would become a major threat to the NFL. The NFL wouldn't stand idly by while NCAA Football became the biggest show in town. They would create something like minor league baseball. And then, just like college baseball, the schools would get their football teams back.
Yeah they aren’t a threat to the NFL. Being a worse pro league is not a recipe for success. College football is already trashing its differentiators from the NFL, and this would seal the deal.

College football expanded viewership to networks and the average regular season viewership was up 2% year over year. The NFL expanded to streaming, early morning windows for international games and average reg season viewership is up 10% year over year.

NFL has been in growth mode for years. College football TV numbers have been a mixed bag. We had OSU vs Notre Dame in the title game last year and viewership was down. It was hilarious when people were pumping up year over year ratings increases for bowl games when they became part of playoff. Of course turning a glorified scrimmage with opt outs to a playoff game is going to help.

if CFB does anything that opens up the ability for NFL to start playing games on Saturday from the start of the season, they will take a huge hit.

44!
You'd of thought the entire team with exception of a handful quit
Number are walk ons. Easton Miller listed at RB yet he filled in at LB late in the season with our rash of injuries. Wonder if there is opportunity back at RB for him as he could fit well with a heavy running attack the way he trucked that dude last year. Thing of beauty.

Where are you getting those numbers?

The page 1 list has 46 transferring in and 25 freshman commits. If we only have 57 newcomers, which 14 from those lists are not included?

Also: There are eight true freshmen enrolled this spring: TE Drew Byrd (Meridian, Idaho), TE Luke Galer (Loomis, Calif.), P Ethan Gurney (Adelaide, Australia), DT Jake Jones (Gilbert, Ariz.), LB Landon Kalsbeck (Littleton, Colo.), CB Torrence “Toe” Sanders (New Orleans, La.), WR Malcolm Watkins (Bakersfield, Calif.), OL Derek Worden (Queen Creek, Ariz.)

Also, keep in mind Nielsen, instituted a new measurement system in September and almost all programming is up 5-10% YoY by default.

The CFP semis this year were down YoY. Which, given the new measurement system, means they would be way down if we’re comparing apples to apples. I expect tonight’s ratings to be down YoY too.

This is the second straight year of disappointing ratings given what ESPN paid for the product. 2030 is going to be interesting when this bubble pops.

Here is a good example of where 247 transfer portal rankings fall short:

Micah Harper: Played 32 games (15 starts) over 4 seasons including missing all of 2023 with injury at BYU. Honorable mention Freshman All American in 2022. Transferred to Montana and started 15 games. 0.8300 transfer portal ranking. Appears they likely just reused his 0.8300 high school ranking.

Hunter Sowell: Walk on who played in 1 game on special teams at ISU. Transfer portal ranking 0.8400. He had no ranking as a prospect so I'm assuming this was just a baseline number given to him as a low level prospect, or the scouting department really liked the potential he showed on his 1 special teams play.
Such a joke of a system.

Gotcha. I didn't hit me that most of the freshman wouldn't be on the roster yet.

Any breakdown of scholarship versus walkon with the returnees.

That's quite a wide swath of where from!
Id assume with the other transfers we will have to widest geographical roster in program history? So critical the system support staff is amazing. Lots of kids from far away.
