***Official portal tracker thread***

We got Raynor, Moberly, a HS flip from Wazzu, and two walk-ons - Bohm and Cantrell. Need one more IMO. I just added to my post that Reisig was high school teammates with one of Geoff Turner's sons that is a WR commit for Colorado State. It would be kinda funny to have Stone Turner transfer in from Colorado State, opposite of what his dad did.
Geoff Turner? Is his son being a commit at CSU a coincidence or does this happen to be a blonde fella from Urbandale?

That is a name I’ve not heard in a long, long time.

Edit: Uhh, I didn’t read the rest. Ha!

Was Geoff Turner at ISU? I didn’t remember that.

If they sign contracts..... I mean I side with the school on this one.

Still waiting for Charlie Baker, the power 4 commissioners, and Nick Saban to get together to fix the damn system once Congress can make the ncaa immune from lawsuits. Good lord this is embarassing for all.
Depends on the contract language, but I would agree with you.

If he entered the transfer portal and received no money from Washington even though he signed the contract, or paid it all back, I wouldn't want to be a school going to try and force him to play for them. Trying to get their money back, back, absolutely in favor of the school. If the contract has no buyout language or clauses dealing with this type of situation, then shame on the University.

He was a RB at ISU for I think two years. IIRC he got in some trouble during his sophomore season and then transferred to Colorado State.

Are Bohm and Cantrell confirmed returnees? I am pretty sure we got by with 3 scholarship QBs last year, so I wouldn't take a QB just to take one. But if it was a good fit, I could definitely see it.

Looking back the last 9 years, the Iowa State football roster has never had more than 3 scholarship QBs and no more than 5 QBs total. I think basically 3 achollys and 2.walkons ever year.

Agree. Absolute malpractice by the attorneys if they can’t at least recoup the money. I wonder if any universities hire outside counsel for this so they could go after the lawyers in a case like this (should they lose).

Thanks. So I think I heard rumors about “trouble”, but ‘93 coincides with the start of a four year blank spot where I didn’t have time for ISU athletics…so if I knew he was at ISU I forgot.

We probably need a couple more RB's. I expect Francois to redshirt. Need at least 5 RB's in the room because if there is one position the injury bug can hit is RB.
Running back the position that good players don’t want to redshirt. You only get so much tread on the tires. A lot of NFL teams consider the tires to be bald at 30.

I haven't seen anything about the money. We sure it was paid by Washington? If not, then my assumption is Washington has to prove damages.

Would be curious what the process is after a player signs the contract. Is the university responsible for going into the portal system and indicate said player has signed a deal.

I ask, because if Washington knows what school later poached the player, I would include that school in the lawsuit. At some point schools need to feel some financial hurt to bring some accountability to the portal process.
I would think the agent and company might have a problem also.

Whether Washington or any other entity you’d think it would be a simple breach of contract if he left and did not okay there, right?

Yeah, if there is no money involved, I would not want to take the PR hit of "proving damages" in order to get extra money. If that happened and I was a transfer, I would stay away from Washington knowing that if I had a change of heart, the school would likely sue for damages.

Washington would likely win, but the PR hit would hurt.

I would be really shocked if that's what Washington is trying.

I haven't heard anything about Bohm and/or Cantrell being in the portal. Would love to see Cantrell move to RB and then add the Boston College QB if we can get him. He could give Moberly a real battle for the 2027 starting spot.

I think we still have that in-state walk-on too. You know, the kid that destroyed a South Dakota linebacker. Easton Miller?

Valid as far as NFL goes.

But do you think Francois is ready to play as a freshmen? Would be great if he is, but I wouldn't want to count on that with one of the most important positions on offense. And if you look at other current players:
  • Jackson - was a sleeper recruit and redshirted- 0 carries in 2025
  • Flora - solid returner but only had 4 carries all season & 2 pass receptions
  • Peppers - tore his achilles, 1 play in 202 and no confirmation he is returning
We need at least 2 more backs (3 depending on Peppers). The good thing is there are a ton of RB's in the portal and outside the top guys, probably not expensive. And lower division guys are definitely an option if they have speed.

I'll be curious where the 2 Hawk RB's end up: Patterson & Washington. Good examples of guys down on the depth chart, upperclassman, who still probably have NFL dreams. Or at least feel they have the talent to receive 10-15 carries a game. A lot of those players on Big10/SEC teams.
