Any updates on Braden Awls?

Listening to the podcast, when he brought up that when Otz was hired by UNLV he flew out to Vegas and rode around with Otz for five days, it hit me. He's going through withdrawal.

#1. Went from being one of the top insiders to being on the outside.
#2. The coaching search lasted minutes instead of days, so nobody was coming to him for info.
#3. CF isn't going to get any portal recruiting info since it's coming from agents/handlers and going directly to the nationals (ESPN, CBS) and network websites (Rivals/On3, 247).
#4. The whole situation of Campbell leaving and the player exodus/NIL situation was national news and was covered in depth.

So I don't think it's a case of not liking the new staff, it's just they don't have time for him (yet).
Otz went from SDSU to UNLV. That move didn't change anything for him regarding Iowa State. If anything, that example might just show that Chris develops close friendships with people that go beyond his professional life and Cyclone Fanatic. There is nothing wrong with that.

The university wrote a check for 300,000,000.00 to athletic department- and magically the athletic department debt has vanished. I think David Cooperfield is the university president. I placed a link to the story that covered this.

So now the ASU Athletic Department can start racking up the next $300M in debt.

Look at the guys entering the portal. Like every dude is a four and 5 star out of HS. Maybe Franklin was an ace recruiter but it looks like falling ass backwards into 4 stars is the norm. You’d think he could start pulling some good non-ISU guys fairly easily. But so far not the case.

Still makes me laugh. Don’t have the resources to compete so just bring in ISU guys and pay them more.
what did all of those 4 and 5 star players do for Penn State? Got their coach fired, that's what. 5 star culture vs. 5 star players.

And we have absolutely no idea if Penn State is overpaying for the Iowa State transfers. That's just an assumption we're making to make us feel better about everything.

I think next year may test Campbells "culture building" skills . His locker room will have a large group of of ISU guys, and a large group if Penn State holdovers. Could be an internal gang war pretty easily. I guess time will tell.
Could be, but also what better way to build that culture than bringing in 15-20 guys who already know that culture and can help the entire team learn it.

You really think the Big Ten wasn’t paying players until now?
I'm sure some schools were, but probably not to the level of the SEC.

Mostly though, I think the SEC is in the best recruiting territory in the country, so they got the most talent, since most kids want to play somewhat close to home. Now that they can be paid, there's increased incentive to play elsewhere if you can make more $$, and I think the Big Ten has more $$ to offer.

It’s like Rogers watched a decade of ISU football film and went “ seriously, why does their line suck so bad every ******* year?”
Honestly any one year of film will do before 2024, when finally had a good line

This is AWESOME. Super useful chart.

I'm not sure what 'net' is tho? I was thinking it would be the number of players we would have had for next year (assuming no transfers) to the number of players we have now. Or, maybe the number we have transferring in minus the number transferring out but it's just total currently committed minus total transferred out which doesn't seem as useful - just my 2cents though - the rest of this sheet is amazing!

Thanks for putting it together!
Thinking about it as a running number by position group comparing current retains and additions compared to total departures. My thought was, as we look at roster building, what is that +/- comparatively.

So QB is a super simple example. Retain Moberly, HS class added Kurland, transfer portal added Raynor for a total of 3. Lost HS decommit Kase Evans and lost Becht and Manske in the portal for a total of 3. So it’s a net change of 0 when comparing what the roster numbers were projected to be pre and post Campbell at this time.

Should also shed some light on the pure numbers game for things that Rogers mentioned like being heavy on DBs and light on DLs previously. So we’ll probably see a net negative on DBs but a net positive on DL numbers at the end of the day.

The portal fixed the DB situation!

I think it's been a nation/conference-wide thing for about every school for decades, just some weren't able to pay as much as others...so basically like now.

Until this year when the wheels came off they were averaging about 9 to 10 wins a year. Franklins problem was not beating the Iowa's and Illinois of the league, he just could not beat Ohio State and Michigan, later Oregon. Ruhl at Nebraska has the same problem, at schools like Penn State they do not measure the coach on how his record as much as who they beat to get to that record, they expect you to beat Rutgers and Purdue. How Campbell does at PSU will be measured by his games at the top of the conference, split have of them, and he will be fine.

I think they both have big money but some of the SEC's top talent teams just don't have great coaches right now. Alabama, LSU and OU took a drop in coaching. Georgia almost doesn't even use the portal. Now that Saban is gone the best coach is probably at Indiana. Crazy to even type that but he was Saban's talent evaluator and in our current situation that might be the most important. Combine that with money and very good coaching and Indiana is going to be up there every year.

The staff has secured several solid OL commits already, but curious if these will have any impact on the Trent Fraley (NDSU center) recruitment? I know they still need bodies, and none of these guys so far have been primarily centers, so that should be a good sign.

I know he is on his MSU visit now, but given his visit list I'm really hoping he makes it to Ames before committing. He would be a huge get, and really solidify this first year oline.
