USF was against FSU, not a relevant figure.

Yes that USF figure is skewed, but it makes me wonder how many "tavern 'noles" would jump behind USF if they got bumped up to the Big 12. I am starting to warm up to the idea of adding USF and UCF as members 13 & 14 or even 15 & 16. I don't think they fit the criteria for the primary targets for expansion, but could be nice additions after whichever schools end up being 11 & 12.

Does this conference even have a plan, or is it all reactionary? Go.

The plan is pretty clear to me. Look at candidates. Consider TV contract ramifications, long term viability issues and then act accordingly. Which may mean staying at ten.

It's very easy to pick on the league, however you choose to define it. Actually, it's your president, mine and all the others. And then to whine about it. I'm not sure exactly how the more learned here would act differently though.

This has nothing to do with TV Partners...This has everything to do with BYU and its Honor Code..Presdients want BYU to change their Honor code to give shelter to current Big 12 PResidents...BYU isn't doing it...There is no expansion scenerio that gets 8 votes without BYU..hence this whole thing appears dead and that is not good folks..Not only is the big 12 losing strength in Baylor faltering after this year but OU clearly isn't gonna make playoffs this year and who knows with Texas..Just remember in 6 years when this conference falls apart all those ISU fans who were/are not in favor of this conference expanding..

Anyone else follow Greg Swaim on Twitter? He's a class A douchebag who thinks he knows all the goings on of realignment with the Big 12. Tonight he posted something responding to a BYU fan. He said that BYU doesn't have the votes to get in...and then said that it was 'at 7 votes to have them join but now 6 since Iowa State folded'.

Again, he's not one that I trust on this subject but curious about his ISU comment.

Melvin Ejim can be VERY convincing. Very. Convincing.

Some people downplay game attendance, buy IMO it is a pretty big indicator how invested an alumni base is in their athletic programs. And I am including all sports, because the athletic department budget for Big12 vs. ACC programs is at least $30M higher. That is a lot of ticket sales and sponsorship revenue to make up.

I would doubt "Tavern Noles" would jump from FSU to USF/UCF if they gained Big12 membership. Especially, the "Tavern Noles" that count, those that currently buying FSU season tickets. It's not like FSU is a 7-8 win program like Iowa. FSU consistently wins 10+ games and playoff team.

The other dynamic is Iowa does not have professional sports teams or theme parks in the area to fight for people's entertainment dollars. Being a college football fan isn't cheap- with the cost of two tickets (plus possible donation) easily in the $1,000-$2,000 range.

BYU is the only team Big12 ready from the financial and entirety of athletic programs perspective. All the other programs have potential. In that respect there is no urgency to add a UConn, Cincy, Houston, CSU, etc. The Big 12 can wait until the current TV contract is up for renewal as the above teams (other than UConn to ACC) will not be invited to join the Big 10, ACC, SEC or Pac12 any time soon.

Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated and Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News both reporting this morning that Oklahoma now opposes expansion.

More importantly it seems there is no motivation to extend the GOR. The guess is that in about 6 or 7 years the other major conferences will come to peck away at the Big 12 as the current GOR comes to its end.

The next few years may be the most important in Iowa State football history as it could be the difference between getting into another power conference or ending up in a weak Big 12/American type one.

This is Thamel's story on it: http://www.campusrush.com/big-12-ex...n-2018459914.html?xid=socialflow_twitter_sicr

I have come to the conclusion the Big 12 is done in 2025. I honestly have no clue where we will end up, but it won't be good.

The article alluded to it, but failed to mention how the playoff will dictate conference expansion. The longer the CFP exists in a 4 team format, thenthe Big 12 is dead to rights. However, picking 4 teams to make the playoff means that there will always be controversy on "which team(s) get left out." In order to avoid controversy, the playoff committee could change the format to a 6 or 8-team playoff, which could actually save the Big 12. It would be a no-brainer to select the winner of each P5 conference championship and the best available programs after that.
