This is ridiculous.
It 100% is. There are so much subversion in soccer. Watch Brazil. To me, Brazil plays the game the way it should be played. These teams just aren’t very good. The only way they can get a result is to muck it up. And here we are. Theatrics are a huge part of the game. You almost have to appreciate it, even if you can’t stand it.

Paraguay played the same way when they had 10 out there. They just don’t have a guy up top anymore. Nothing has changed really. It’s basically a 5-4 formation, and they would have been 5-4-1 once they scored.
Doesn't that hurt there chance to counter by quite a bit? It basically puts them on the defensive with less chance to capitalize on mistakes? I don't watch soccer much, so maybe thats wrong, but it seems like it would be right.

They are up 1-0. They are totally fine with that result. They aren’t concerned about counters.

When they had 10 guys, they were going to take a chance at a counter 1 in 20 chances, and that was the strategy. They had a couple. Once they went a man down, they adjusted the strategy. It’s like no-doubles defense.

We are definitely closing the gap. We're not at the top level yet, because we still have gaps defensively and the better teams will likely exploit our weaknesses and lack of consistency.

We're at our best when we play aggressively, but IMO, a team like France or England can counter us and will give us fits.

The nice thing is we're at home and are playing with confidence. And, since we just have to be better in one game, we're proving that we are very capable of holding our own and upsetting a more proven team on a given day.

Fun times. I'm enjoying the hell outta this ride.

The irony is before we started closing the gap defense was the thing we could hang our hat on. Sure, we had Donovan, and then we had Dempsey, but what we would do is just pack the box in front of the goal and make things hell for teams that wanted to make plays in front of the goal - and what made that possible was a really strong back line.

We seem to have traded that defense for a much more threatening offense.

So I guess losing a position on the field doesn't matter? That's something.

Position on the field? No, it means very little when two ****** teams are playing. Both Paraguay and Turkey are ****** teams. Overall, Turkey is probably better, but an early 1-0 score in favor of the slightly less crappy team makes up for the difference.
