***Official 2026 NCAA Tournament Thread***

Question, when they don’t call very many fouls and they let the teams play… isn’t that theoretically the definition of a rock fight?

A ton of calls means the referees are trying to control the physicality and the flow of the game… That makes it a “slog fest”

slog /slŏg/

intransitive verb

  1. To walk or progress with a slow heavy pace; plod.
"slog across the swamp; slogged through both volumes."

That game was not a "rock fight". It was, as Charles Barkley said, a "jump shooting contest". If you want a rock fight, go back and watch a collection of Houston/Iowa State games.

Depends. Will they get the same ref crew?

Honestly asking, bcuz I might take them to cover if they get this same one that calls nothing. Really favors them to not be in a slogfest. A rock fight would be huge in Houston's favor. (And they could still get Illinois)
Think crews only work one game. Not like HS and do a double

All ******** aside… And Freddie is improving as a coach and he’s a good one… But how the hell do you put four people back on the floor with under a minute left

Yes - and they were both bad. Nebraska was just worse. Maybe we should hope Iowa keeps getting lucky. We would destroy them.

Though I don’t think I could handle watching the game if it were ever close…

I’m not either, It’s not that serious dude…. I’ll be watching Iowa State tomorrow like I did 15 other times this year, in fact about 15 times more than I watched one whole Iowa game.

And the difference is, I will be rooting hard for them to win and I will be pissed if they don’t.

When you move out of state and get away from all the thick fans on both sides, it’s not that hard to root for both teams
I haven't lived in the state for 20 years and I still want Iowa to lose every ******* game.

Seen them…incredible games. With that said there was a whole lot of defense in that game Nebraska was playing them 30 foot from the hoop and doubling Stirtz every single chance they got . And Sandfort, iI give him credit. He usually had a guy chasing him hard!

Mashburn trashing Fred’s defensive plan and rotating like that. He said his team of 8th graders could exploit that defense.
Fred has never been a very good head coach X’s and O’s wise IMO. At ISU he just had some really loaded teams talentwise. Outside of those few years…. he’s done nothing anywhere else he’s been. Some say he did this season, but I saw them play quite a bit this year and was never impressed.

Just to put this more into perspective, as I told my son when he called me from southern Illinois… Iowa hasn’t made the elite eight since I was 17 years old:p but here’s the thing, tomorrow I still have to go to work, I still have bills, I still have six kids, and I still have way more important things to do
...and yet you're on the Cyclone message board. What happened to all those important things you had to do?

.

.
...how about getting off here and go do them then.

Oh it wasn’t ? It’s possible I’m just too dumb to know better… You know I did go to Iowa State for a stint back when I was pretending to go to college
I didn’t pretend when I attended Iowa State and it was a great, life changing experience for me. I graduated and I’m proud to be a Cyclone.

I realize by posting this I’m also highjacking this thread, but I couldn’t resist.
