***Official 2025 Weather Thread***

This is what the Channel 13 future radar shows for 8:30pm tonight. As an Ankeny resident, I'm praying it's accurate.

That’s called an outflow boundary. The cooler air from aloft coming down with the rain, hitting the ground and spreading out. Sometimes that can cause enough instability to generate more rain or even storm cells along that boundary.
Especially when colliding with another outflow boundary.

Intense downpour on the NW side of Ankeny. We got 1/2 inch of rain in 15 minutes! We were gonna grill out hamburgers but switched to making sloppy joes. :)

I had a weird experience today. I hit a small storm cell on hwy 330 just south of hwy 30. It wasn't raining especially hard (I hate driving in heavy rain and I wasn't bothered by it) and I never hit any hail. But I bet I saw 50 cars pulled over. I actually pulled over too because I thought maybe there was a tornado on the ground---that's the only reason I could think of as to why so many people would be pulled over. I eventually made it to a gas station and waited it out there. There was an ambulance and a few sirens.
