Just shoveled in Twin Cities near west metro at the halftime of the Purdy Show. Only 2"-3". Big fizzle so far for the forecasted amount.

I am pretty sheltered from the wind so it's not bad out "locally". House is leeward of the wind behind a big hill with a a ton of mature trees.

Felt grinchy going out early and taking down all the lights today....in a mist that eventually became a cold ass rain 90 min in but hearing it howling now and seeing single digits next week, I am glad I did it.

Drove to minnesota yesterday. Left central iowa around 11 a.m. Made it safe and sound, but holy crap that was quite the trip. Had to get off of 35 at hwy 20 then zig zagged up the rest of the way in white out conditions. Thankfully the snow didn't really accumulate on the road. Just went really slow and used GPS. 4 hr trip took 8 hours. One of the dumbest things i've done in a while. :D

I've got 5 hours in the car from NW Iowa to home in eastern Iowa to do today. Morning road report? Less than ideal. Oh well. We'll get there when we get there.

I'm in Scott County and we received 7-8 inches of snow

The weather ***** caused my my flight from DSM yesterday afternoon after the winter squall started, so no Birmingham Bowl for me today as planned! Minor inconvenience for me though, but there were folks on my flight trying to go to Spain, Argentina, etc. for the New Year who couldn't get rescheduled until later in the week. Just a sucky weather day yesterday for flying.

Man that's a bummer. DSM is an absolute issue getting out of in the winter, I've learned the hard way. Even when conditions are good I've had the god damn de-icer cause me to miss connecting flights.

I haven't had to de-ice in a long time - how long does that typically take here? I know in the winter most airlines factor in de-icing on most flights to allow for time, but I'm also of the thought of if I'm connecting anywhere, I need at least an hour and a half layover. I can do Minneapolis with a 40 minute layover (lived there for 10 years and spent quite a bit of time at that airport), but ATL/DTW, I need only book flights with a 90 minute layover.

That was part of the problem yesterday. The de-icer was not available due to the winds with the squall. It is just so random. Woke up yesterday and all was well. Then, the damn squall started right when I was preparing to go to the airport. Of course, today, nice and sunshiny. Minor inconvenience for me, but inconvenient none-the-less.
