I left Cedar Rapids to drive to Iowa City for an event at 5:15 yesterday. It was 77 degrees. When I got back home at 8:00 it was 58. I felt that change.

When I saw the radar last night it looked like that whole state was gonna get cooked.
Couple towns got hit twice in a row. Slabbed houses. Looked bad on radar and images today aren't better.
5 fatalities in St. Louis RN... 20 in London, KY in Appalachia...

It was pretty late at night at around 11pm CST that the Somerset-London tornado dropped (I thought the event was over already just a few hours before) so a lot of people likely let down their guards, very devastating for a part of the US that doesn't usually see tornadoes like what we get here in central Iowa.

In Laurel County, the tornado hit at approximately 11:49 p.m., traveling across Keavy Road, Kentucky 1006, Old Whitley Road, and the London Corbin Airport.
It was pretty late at night at around 11pm CST that the Somerset-London tornado dropped (I thought the event was over already just a few hours before) so a lot of people likely let down their guards, very devastating for a part of the US that doesn't usually see tornadoes like what we get here in central Iowa.

For context, the 2023 Rolling Fork, MS EF4 tornado caused 17 fatalities, and the 2024 Greenfield, IA EF4 tornado caused 5 fatalities- this is now deadlier than both of them combined. This is crazy y'all, I didn't even think this would be this kind of tornado looking at the radar signature (at least compared to the many other ridiculous radar signatures yesterday).
