***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

When I called the opening manager who comes from Des Moines seemed kind of miffed about me calling in.

I came in Tuesday and Friday when I probably has no business doing so and Friday I was only day employee to come in. Since Aug. 26 I've worked every day but Thanksgiving and Christmas day so I think I'm allowed a freaking snow day.
NO Rulzzz, you are allowed to give him/her the one finger waive and then what they can French kiss.
Never EVER put your safety above a job.

People talk about this stuff with the importance normally reserved for people on organ donor lists who are days away from dying if a new heart doesn't come through. They'll figure it out.

The conversation surrounding what the athletic department should have done after they cancelled the ISU vs South Dakota St. football back in 2018 was ******* ridiculous.

I don’t think OSU will show, last night OKC had a small Earthquake, they definitely don’t want to deal with a Blizzard and then Cyclones all within 24 hours, right?

It could be getting approval to take off. With so many commercial cancellations yesterday, I'm guessing commericial flights get priority.
As a former air traffic controller, that’s not it. Air traffic is handled first-come first-served, you don’t get priority if you’re an air carrier compared to a charter.

That said, who knows why they keep pushing back departure … mechanical issues, problems with getting fueled, issues with the flight plan or the crew, could be anything.

It's going to take a plane crashing in bad weather or something getting killed in a stadium by a lightning strike for people to realize how insignificant this all is.

Having said that, I do chuckle a bit at the idea most seem to have that it's simply impossible to make contingency plans because these events are just so logistically challenging. It's severe weather, not some black swan nobody can see coming. It comes up a handful of times every year.
