***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

A couple big-ish roster bullpen moves will need to come soon.

- Boxberger is reportedly in Chicago and has been for a couple of days. Fairly confident MLB rules will force him to be off the IL in the next couple of days.

- Fulmer is expected to be near-minimum on the minimum for his IL stint

- Brown, Burdi, and Hughes all threw tonight in Des Moines

Will be interesting to see what arms are sent away. I would have no issue sending Palencia down and then putting someone else on the IL for a hang nail.
Burdi 1IP 1K 9 pitches. Yes please!

Greene gets DFA'd. Thompson and Wesneski get sent out. Cuas also has options if you want to go that way.

Anyone else think Ross not playing Canario is internally playing out like a scene from Moneyball?
It's similar but opposite of what happened in Moneyball. Art Howe was playing a rookie with gold glove potential at 1B in Pena while the front office wanted to play a washed up converted catcher Hatteberg there who looked like Mancini and Wisdom with the glove. Ross prefers to play strike out machines Morel and Wisdom at DH and not a hot hitting rookie with power who also is plenty capable of playing defense at all 3 OF positions.

I just hope once he gets his chance he has a huge game and forces Ross to play him more else they just messed up the development of the main prospect in the Bryant trade. They already announced he plans to play in the Arizona fall league to make up for lost time with his injury. Pisses me off they got some solid returns when they traded some of the core guys from the 2016 team and now that some of those prospects are ready to contribute they seem reluctant to sit or cut ties with guys that are not producing right now or part of the long term plans to let them contribute to surprise playoff contending team. Had they gone in the tank and traded off guys at the deadline PCA and Canario would probably be playing everyday right now.

Ben Brown would need to pitch a few good games at Iowa before I'd trust him even in relief in Chicago. He got lit up a bit before he went on the IL. After seeing how they have handled Canario I'd rather leave PCA in Iowa unless they would commit to playing him regularly when he gets called up.

If this team makes the playoffs given the way they played lately it will be a short lived run. I would prefer they keep developing the young guys to contribute in 2024 and playing everyday in Iowa is better for that than riding the bench in Chicago.

I’m confused - Why would you start Canarios service time, never play him, and then swap him out for PCA shortly after?

It would make much more sense to me to send out Mastroboni, who, since being up, as played the role of having 1 sacrifice bunt and pinch running one time.

I’m also anti-DFAing Greene. Something he’s done that a lot of our bullpen hasn’t is proven throughout his whole career he won’t walk, walk, walk us to a loss. He is far from elite, but I’d rather lose because the opponent is hitting us over losing because we cant throw a strike

Bote already on a ML contract seems like a better option to sit on the bench to fill a roster spot.

Sounds like Urias may be off the market because he can't keep his hands off women.

Montgomery, Giolito, Snell, Nola are now your top FA starters, not including the Yoshi if he's posted. They're going to benefit very well financially between Ohtani and Urias having issues.

Would be nice to be 12 or 14 games over. Ost of it came late but this is the run support we need from the offense. Not 14 (nice but...) and not 1.

Just wish they could grind some out 1 or 2 at a time rather then waiting for a big inning. Need to wear the starter out.

I don't even care how they do it at this point but it's hard to bank on winning games consistently with 1-3 runs of support.

And the Brewers lose, thanks Pirates! Would be very nice if the Brewers could go on a cold streak here with the Cubs having a couple tough series ahead
Nothing really scary about our schedule.
Onlly 9 of next 18 v. Teams in contention. Only 3 of those on the road.
Then final week to ATL who will be resting guys and close with 3 in Wrigley north. You know Cubs fans have been hoarding those tix.
