***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

I wish our pitching matched up a little better this weekend, so I'm just hoping for 1 of 3. I'm hopeful Fried will be rusty tonight and you can get on him earlier. I can't imagine he's too stretched out so maybe we can wear down the bullpen a bit tonight.

Braves are clearly doing things well right now, but I question why you would start Fried when he's on a count tonight and risk running through your bullpen game one of an important series. Then again, this series may not be important to them.

Hendricks making it easier for the Cubs to swallow not picking up his $16 million if Stroman ends up staying for his $21 million.

I get the Braves are good, but in the 4th inning he's given up hits of 115 mph, 103 mph, 110 mph, 96 mph, 98 mph, and 109 mph. That **** isn't acceptable at the MLB level.

I love Hendricks but he just cant seem to make it through an order multiple times. Stuff just isn't there anymore, although I see he touched 90 today.

The Reds playing the Nationals and the Brewers playing the Pirates makes this even worse. Could lose quite a bit of the ground we'd made up this weekend.

Braves, @Mets (though they’re tanking now), and @Blue Jays. Make it through next weekend not TOO far out and the schedule gets very favorable

As a Brewers fan - I was hoping for the same. We won 1 game out of 6 (in two recent series against them). With our anemic offense, we scored 7, then 5, then 6 runs against them in Atlanta - but garnered ZERO wins. Even good pitching isn't so good against Atlanta - they seem to be in another stratosphere right now. (Full disclosure - I became a Brewers fan in '78 when they were in the AL East & the Cubs were actually a team from the NL that I liked growing up.) Anyway, good luck the rest of the way (except in the 6 games left we have with you ;)).

Today was the one we really needed. TBD tomorrow and Steele Sunday who's struggled as of late. Hopefully we steal one.

Assad tomorrow.

We needed today to get 2/3. Now just got to hope we get 1. Still, taking 4/7 on this homestead is a win.

I don’t hate sending Kay down and Killian up since we’re trying to win now. Curious if we start focusing on Killian being a reliever. His starts in Iowa have been inconsistent but Kay in Chicago is a waste of roster space.

Have they announced a move yet? Guessing Killian won't start until Stroman 's spot comes up again so we basically have an extra reliever all week.

They just announced Kay's being sent down for Killian. I believe Stroman is expected to come off the IL and start Friday against the Blue Jays, so my assumption is Killian is up to eat some innings since everyone's been taxes the last couple of games.

Just saw Cliff Floyd say Assad will stay in the rotation and Killian takes the long relief spot.

Teams need middle/long relievers, too. It would be nice if they could wring some value out of Killian here. He's sure been a big disappointment after initially flashing such promise for us.
