***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Brennan Davis is a non-prospect at this point. I'd be surprised if he makes it through the offseason on the 40 man.

I saw a trade prediction of Stroman and cash to Orioles for prospect Coby Mayo. At first, I was shocked that they couldn’t do better than the #7 prospect in the Orioles organization but he is one of the fastest risers in minor league baseball and has the highest power grade. He can play 3B so he fills a hole and will be big league ready in 2024.

Possibly trade or buyout Hendricks to try and resign Stroman or a free agent arm in the off season.

I’m in the minority but I say you try to extend Bellinger as he has clearly found his form and can play 1B or OF. He’s a Boras client so loyalty means nothing.

You shouldn't be shocked at all. We've traded away a tremendous amount of talent the last 3 years and still are only ranked as the 10th best farm system in baseball right now.

I think the Cubs NEED to bring Bellinger back at this point. They aren’t going to find another impact bat on the market this offseason, and no one on the current team is growing into that role. This team isn’t far off from competing and next year we’ll start to see some legit prospects contribute. I think you flat ask Belli if he’d rather stay or go to a contender for the rest of the year and let him know that you’ll do what it takes to bring him back.

Bellinger has been pretty open about the solid communication with the FO. Part of me thinks the FO has been in his ear about wanting him back if they trade him, because he's been nothing but class. As others have pointed out, he takes care of 2 of our 3 "up in the air" positions for 2024. I do believe he is what we need.

Locked On Cubs had two interesting points Friday:

1. Bellingers name alone will get him a decent haul. Buyers want to make a splash, and they'd be getting a guy who has been hot this year AND is nearly a household name as can get in baseball.

2. It's believed Soto wants out of San Diego. With a year left on his contract, would you trade Suzuki (assuming he would wave his no trade clause for SDP) and two top prospects for Soto in 2024? I'd do it in a heartbeat.

You serious or just trolling?
While the guys we traded away WERE great, they've been atrocious since leaving and we would be in a worse position if we kept them.

Bryant has a -0.5 WAR, meaning having him on your roster costs you half a game.
Schwarber is -1.1 WAR

Baez (0.8) Rizzo (0.9) and Contrearas (1.7) are the only players of the core with a positive WAR.

Swanson alone is a 3.0 WAR.

Darvish has been good 1 out of 3 years in San Diego.

Kris Bryant hasn’t been able to stay healthy and when he is, isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire.

Rizzo’s been ok as a Yankee but how much of that is aided by playing in a little league stadium?

Javy was good for a half season with the Mets when traded but has been a complete bust for the Tigers.

Kimbrel is decent.

Who am I missing? Traded away a lot of big names but none of those guys are guys I am clamoring to have back on the roster

Suzuki, Alcantara, Rojas?

That seem like enough? Maybe Brown or Wicks if they need an arm?

I'm assuming PCA, Horton and Ferris are untouchable.

I can imagine a lineup looking like this:

1. CF - PCA
2. 2B - Hoerner
3. SS - Swanson
4. 1B - Bellinger
5. DH - Mervis
6. LF - Happ

The rest is up in the air

That's quite the assumption since we made the playoffs 5 times with those guys yet are struggling to get to .500 with the current group we have.

We should easily have the top minor league system in baseball right now.
