***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

I think Stroman is the guy you need to resign if you're serious about adding a big name free agent in the offseason. Now suddenly back in the thick of the division hunt I wouldn't be surprised if we add a 3B if there's one to be had that makes sense longterm.

Agree. If the Cubs want to go after an elite hard throwing starter this off-season, they need to have a strong starting rotation for that guy to step into. I would think Stroman, Smyly and Steele is a good start. With Taillon, Hendricks and Wesneski solid back end of the rotation guys or a couple possible trade pieces.

Spending $105/mo for a garbage streaming service and they put them on Peacock on Father's Day really pisses me off.

In 2023 you shouldn't have to do this, but just nab an online stream. MLB has the most asinine policies when it comes to blackouts and the control they give their teams over such decisions.

Imagine how much worse even Taillon’s numbers would be if the Cubs weren’t so good up the middle.

Watching highlights of Tauchman's assist to home, and then his HR. On the video board in left field by the basket, it lists the batter's walk-up song. Tauchman's is Swag Surfin'.:campbell:

Anyone know why Keegan Thompson is so bad all of a sudden? Went to the Iowa Cubs game last night and his ERA is over 12 with 16 walks and 15 K's.

I saw him a couple weeks ago and he walked 5 struck out 4 giving up a hit and 2 runs in 1.2 innings. He was so good last year but seems to have lost his control and confidence or something. The walks are really bad but he still has some stuff obviously by the strikeout numbers too. Just needs to throw strikes more consistently.

Love that they won 5 out of the last 6 with a chance to make up more ground this week with 3 more against Pittsburgh. Still keeping my expectations low as this team is capable of losing 5 in a row too. Reality is they have the 5th worst record in the NL and 5.5 games back from a wild card spot. Winning the NL Central would be more likely than a wild card spot IMO and even then I don't think this team is built to win a 1st round matchup.

I'm still of the opinion if you aren't going to extend Stroman or Bellinger you need to look at trading them even if you are in striking distance of the division. The long term benefits of bringing in a potential impact prospect(s) over going all in and falling short this season and not cashing in on valuable trade chips seems like a waste to me. If they do go all in then you have to be willing to trade valuable prospects to fill some big holes in this roster and not sure if that is worth it for shirt term gain when some of those prospects could have several years of productivity. I kind of view this roster around the time they acquired Arietta and also traded off some guys in 2014 when they were decent but not good enough yet to make a run. If you don't see a player as part of the plan 2-3 years from now you may have to take 1 step back to take 2 steps forward.

Crazy deal the bus driver hauling the Pirates from Chicago to Milwaukee got busted for drunk driving. Luckily no one was hurt and no accident.

I guess he should have cut off at the 5th inning. But seriously, he's driving the team bus and has a police escort from Chicago to Milwaukee and thinks its a good idea to drink ahead of time. Dude should be the poster man for STUPID.

Surprised they don't have a second driver in jump seat in case of health impairment.

I always look at incidents like this as a testament to how bad addiction can be. I can't imagine the guy is just downright stupid. I imagine he's just a serious addict whose addiction has gotten in the way of his ability to use reason and judgement.

Fulmer finally starting to pitch like the guy the Cubs thought he could be when they signed him. Has not given up a run since 5/27 and now has had 10 scoreless appearances. Merryweather also no runs since 5/26, 12 scoreless appearances since then.

Reds are hot right now too winning 8 straight and in the NL Central lead.
