I would expect to see normal winter travel with probably 100% of the roads snow and ice covered. Main roads have been plowed here in Ames. Our side street has been plowed twice since 2 pm yesterday, but probably has 6” more on it. Use caution and plan accordingly and give yourself plenty of time.

Thinking about going over to my neighbor’s and digging a snow tunnel through his 5’ tall piles at the end of his driveway. Dude was out there for 2 hours cleaning his driveway.
We are planning on giving ourselves about double the normal driving time. Thanks for the heads up

This is pretty wild. As others have said, I have bare concrete in some areas and then foot to foot and a half drifts in other areas and maybe even deeper. There's really no way to determine the actual amount of snow. I'm going to try to measure it anyway in some areas that look to be not affected by the wind so much.

From the looks of the amounts of snow I'd say that the NWS did a pretty good job of predicting this one, especially with how variable the temperatures and moisture content were.

According to this, there is a pretty big drop off in amounts going from Des Moines to Northeast of Des Moines and also going to the west of Des Moines an even sharper drop-off.

Anyone know when the last time DSM had a foot of snow was?

My three little dogs weren't tall enough to jump into the drifts on my deck, so I had to shovel a path as fast as I could this morning so that they could go down the steps and under the deck
My dog refused to go out when I shoveled so I just basically gave him the wink and a nod to do his business in the house. He gets a pass for today.

Yellow Snow

Pretty sure the wind drifts had to be 2-3 feet at my house. Brutal.
My wife went out yesterday afternoon to run some quick errands before it got real bad here in Osage.

Left the garage door open.... Come out this morning to a drift in my garage up to the Ford logo on my tailgate. Around the sides to the rear wheels.

Excellent! There is probably more snow in my garage than the driveway.

Cleared out the end of the driveway last night since that drifts bad and before the city filled it back in. Wake up this morning to at least knee deep pile of snow the entire width of my driveway. ******* city. Shouldn’t have to buy a blower, plow, skid loader, or pay someone to clean out my snow with as small as my drive is. Getting pretty close to that though.

-7 when I got up. Not much snow in gods country though, maybe 3" to 4", pretty much what NWS forecast. Not going anywhere this weekend but maybe will get out of PJ's and shovel anyway. Think I am pushing 40 hours in PJ's.

Ya, I've had a guy that does all of my snow removal (and Lawn work) for quite a number of years now and it's worth it to me. We were always on the road anyway so we weren't around to do it. I'm paying him a bunch extra for this one!
