Curious when Gabe is going to announce he's coming back. Tomorrow is the deadline to announce if you're declaring for the NBA draft. He's one of only a few big 12 players that haven't announced if they are staying or going.

I think it's basically a given he does, AFAIK it was always the plan for him to play for 2 years and he didn't have a year like Brockington did that would open a bunch of professional opportunities. Don't get me wrong, Gabe can probably play overseas when he's done, but he's not like get picked in the 2nd round or something like Brockington could. Maybe just doesn't feel he needs to make an announcement?

I feel like everyone that is coming back for a 5th year has announced it. And he's gotta know people are waiting for him to announce it.

He has yet to even visit Ames. Chill out.
Likely won't. I don't think he had anything scheduled.
Edit: I see he is scheduled to visit next weekend. That was originally scheduled 2 weeks ago. With the new tweet today, I'd say it's 50/50 if he makes it here next weekend.

He visited Virginia Tech April 13th, was at Notre Dame today, and this tweet came out today.

Mid May??.....so we're going to scrounge up enough NIL money by then and get Zach Edey from Purdue to transfer here? (sorry, just a little wired up right now)

Last year Brockington committed to ISU around May 5. And there are a lot of quality players still uncommitted in the portal.

All I'm saying is no reason to panic because we missed on 2 guys fans on this board wanted badly. Let's see where we sit around May 15. Add a couple more guys and people will be happy.

We're screwed.
I like Basile, but he is not the difference between being screwed and not screwed.

He is a piece. There are many "piece" types still out there.

This is the value from winning via defense. Maintain that, and you are starting off okay. Williams, Gabe, Ward, Kunc, King, Grill, Watson, Lipsey...even Jones can and will defend. AJG is likely.

We have a ton of volume to sell. Perhaps in future years that won't matter much, but it does right now.

This is what rationalizing recruiting failure looks like

Well, we have not yet missed on Basile.

And I disagree. Recruiting is only a failure if you don't land what you need. You're just going to miss on guys.

It really isn't a big deal until you're left with a roster of just 10 guys, including a Summit League transfer and a few scrubs from a 2-22 team.

I'd rather sign three perimeter players than Basile, but if we have room for a 4th, he would be nice

We shall see. If he visits we have a chance. If money matters, we don ‘t. Rumored weeks ago Notre Dame had a NIL deal. But, I am not sure we are out of the running yet.

Green/Holmes/Bates

Top half of the conference and tournament lock
For discussion sake, even if we got Bates, we have good defense and very good rim protection...but do we have a post 'scorer'. Can we assume we can play next season again with an offense w a 5 position player only scoring on dunks? Of course hopefully there would be more offensive rebound putbacks.

Nevermind: I forgot if we get the right 'other pieces' and the three ball started going in more, it would open up driving, etc.

I’m hoping for Green, Council, Holmes and Bates.

We can’t pay Kyle Green a bonus for landing a top recruit? Do that now to get 14 players and a better roster? That’s what raises are for right?

With all the stuff going on, if we’re not willing to go use that advantage, we should just fold now.

Who was our low post scorer in 2018-19 or last season? Are you counting Burton as a post scorer in 16-17?

Green apparently makes ~$300K. It is not totally unreasonable to think his son could have offers to make more than him next year.

ISU isn’t going to match the combined earning potential in salary.

Let’s see if I have the hang of how things work ‘round here:

Time to start sweating Coach Green getting poached to go coach his son at Duke!
