I suppose so. Maybe we'll get a few more of his type when TJ can build up the program and have more than 10 scholarship players, then he can plug in a guy like Born to add depth etc, but I don't think any of us are complaining that we went with guys like Brockington to compete right away, and low and behold we end up in the dance. I get you need athleticism, strong bodies, height, guys who can DEFEND, etc., but those kids from Iowa mentioned above would be adding alot more to this team than what we're getting out of Walker, Enaruna, and Jackson. Here's to the present (great job by TJ w/ this roster) but looking forward to the future and some Matt Thomas shooters.

I was just poking the masses with a stick. I completely agree I hope we start landing our share of the upper crust of the instate classes.

If you revisit the post you'll see it's starting.

Oh, haha, I get the poking the masses. But guess I haven't seen anything on it's starting.. (as in recruiting upper crust instate talent) other than Lipsey...but it's a start.

Don’t disagree, but would rephrase slightly. I think if Green plays another year or college basketball there is a good probability it’s in Ames. Think you’re right about Garcia. If he has his eyes set on the pros I don’t know why you’d leave Chapel Hill for Ames
Yeah I could’ve rephrased it better as what you said is exactly what I’m thinking

We all talk about shooters. TJ has to recruit a guy "like" Sandfort at Iowa. Not sure if Eli King is a similar shooter or not. Kid comes in and shoots lights out for them and not just when standing wide open. I know Prohm tried for Devries but that wasn't going to happen. UNI of course has had AJGreen the last 4 years. Just saying these are 3 Iowa high school kids that I believe could have played at ISU and no, I'm not one of these fans that thinks we have to have players from the state. I'm just saying if there are more out there, TJ needs to land one of them. Streaky Gabe and Caleb just aren't enough. (Yes, I get this has been discussed plenty, already.).
I get what your trying to say, but just pointing out, Jackson's numbers are very similar to Sandfort's. I get there's more upside with sandfort, but just this season, they're basically the same.

Jackson never plays anymore, and Sandfort cracks a much better rotation than ours. I don't even equate the two.

Iowa’s guard rotation is much better than ours? That’s hilarious. Some people just don’t believe there are 2 ends of the court. Shooting is important but so is defense

Oh I understand its importance, but the original conversation was talking about offensive numbers/contribution , since most fans have been begging for 'shooters'.

Born was ours for the taking.

And he might prove over the next couple years he would have been a good get. But the difference with a DeVries or Sandfort is height.

If I was a coach I would build a roster with as many 6'5" to 6'7" jump shooters as possible. The added benefit of rebounding and defending the opponent's 3 point shooters make these kids key in building a roster.

So I would "take a risk" on a taller player that I wouldn't take on a player 6'3" or less.
