While it’s cool to be on the list; as we’ve seen Prohm can’t land his top 50 targets in the transfer market.

If our new coach can hit on transfers, the rebuild COULD be short.
I hate to bring up “luck” again today(lol), but we had some bad luck in the transfer market. We made the top 2-3 on a lot of good transfers and they went elsewhere. Then our best transfer ended up sitting out the year on top of that.

We are 2-3 years away. You remember Fred’s first class. That is what next year will be like. We are going to get Jake Anderson type transfer. The top 50 transfers are going to a squad that went 0-18 this year.
Accept that 2021-22 is an absolute wash and that you want the beginning of a culture
laid. If we see a winning record in 2022-23 then we are on the right track. I don’t think people want to accept how large of a rebuild this is unless you get Altman.

with the regular season over i thought it would be interesting to revisit some of ISU's targets from last spring

Some thoughts

  • Alan Griffin be going Pro after this year
  • Both Gach ended up being a bust. i really wanted him. Javan>Both
  • David Dejulius would have been a good add for the PG spot
  • will be forever curious what issues caused ISU to pass on Carton but for a Jesuit Catholic school to admit him
  • Justin Smith would have been HUGE for this team.
  • Remember when people argued over Drew Buggs being a take?
  • Remember when people projected Tyler Harris as a PG?
  • Jalen Coleman-Lands lived up to my expectations
  • Tahj Eady was way better for USC than i thought he'd be

Im sure there is a list somewhere of the transfers we missed on but I don’t think ours are the bad. Obviously hindsight. Biggest miss seems to be David Dejulius at the point. Other than that JCL has been one of our top transfers as of late

Edit: Found the list. Messi posted it right about before I saw lol. Still think David was the biggest miss followed by Smith as a close second.

Hinson sitting out was bad luck yes, but I don’t get how simply missing out on transfers is bad luck. To me luck is about stuff out of your control, and landing recruits is not that. Missing out on top transfer targets was one of the contributors to Prohm’s downfall and the blame is on him for that, not luck. I do agree that if the new coach is able to land solid transfers then the path back to relevancy won’t be too far off.

When it comes to transfers, I think Fred was super fortunate to get 4 of the greatest transfers we ever had. Knowing someone that worked in his program, a couple of them apparently fell into our lap due to circumstances. Which I guess is true of a lot of programs and their transfer connections. Kane was an unbelievable catch. (thank goodness for his mom wanting him at ISU). Royce...enough said. Chris Babb and Will Clyburn would be my next two. But like everyone says, now EVERYONE including blue bloods raid the transfer market.

I think Chaundee Brown would've had much better stats if he came to ISU. He's looked pretty good in the games I've seen. I think putting him on the opposite wing as JCL would have made Bolton's job trying to be a PG a lot easier.

That being said, I can't blame him as I'd rather have a chance to win a ship than better stats.

Fred got transfers (for ISU) when the transfer thing was just sprouting. His work on getting transfers was a reflection of a NBA GM (showing his NBA experience and putting it to work) to fill roster holes. Given most every school (IA is one exception) is now in the transfer market, there's a lot more competition and is questionable if he could duplicate that again.
