She's incredible in this. I wasn't sure about him at the very start but he really does great too

Just saw this tonight. It really gets going after the first half. Horror isn’t really my thing unless there’s an element of mystery, but I did like this.
Not sure I agree with OPs takes on the themes of the movie. But it definitely is a “be careful what you wish for” tale.

Reducing it to a 'be careful what you wish for' fable completely ignores the actual mechanics of the plot. Bear literally uses a magical shortcut to override Nikki's autonomy because his ego can't handle being friend-zoned.
The entire horror of the film stems from the fact that Nikki's real mind is trapped inside her own body, fully aware that she's being forced into a physical and emotional relationship without her consent. When Bear realizes she's suffering under his manufactured spell, his immediate reaction is defensive self-pity ('What's so bad about being with me?'). That is a direct, textbook indictment of modern male entitlement and the terror of rejecting an entitled 'nice guy'; not just a campfire fable about greed.
No I didn’t say it’s about greed. And I don’t think the main character was a toxic male, at least not until the scene you describe. I think the main character was weak and a coward, but he basically was Jim Halpert in seasons 1-3 of the office.
Honestly it’s a pretty relatable scenario. He had feelings for a friend but was simply too much of a coward to tell her how he felt. She gave him a point blank opportunity to do so and he chickened out. Then he wished that she would love him so it’d be obvious, but ope that was a huge mistake.
And the “toxicity” if you want to call it that, definitely went both ways. She clearly played with his feelings. She badgered him to come to trivia when he said no twice, she obviously knew he liked her and said things like “when I have a crush on a guy they’ll never know”, and she was sleeping with his friend in secret. Which I’m not saying is wrong, but both of them were hiding that from the main character intentionally for a reason.
