No More Sweet 16’s in Chicago

The loss to Duke was to the eventual National Champion & we had a dysfunctional team with a coach who was still trying to figure out how to lead a P5 team. The loss to Virginia was with Prohm as our coach and the Cavaliers were the HIGHER seed that year. This year we did NOT have our best player. I totally believe we beat UT with JJeff and finally breat the S16 "curse." I am fine if we play another S16 in Chicago - I just hope like crazy it will be at a time when we are FULLY healthy and the higher seed.

Duke?

How many of those sweet 16s were ISU actually favored and expected to win?
Let us see:
2022: Lost to Miami as an 11 seed when they were a 10 seed. The game seemed to be an uphill battle but the Cyclones were definitely not expected to win. It was a great and successful season regardless after going 0fer in the conference the previous season.

2024: Faced Illinois a 3 seed as a 2 seed. Favored to win that game and it was close but another one of those pesky scoring droughts put the damper on a close game losing 72-69.

2026: Lost to a 6 seed as a 2 seed in a game that seemed beyond reach 2 minutes into the second half.

Hopefully in 27,28 or 29 we can get that favorable draw without injuries or other challenges rearing their ugly head.

However, even if we are a top two seed (Who am I kidding, would Iowa State get a one seed even if they were undefeated entering the NCAA?) and we lose to some double digit seeded team in the Sweet 16 Mr MadCity will be explaining how completely outgunned we were from an athletic perspective and there was just simply nothing to be done about it.

The last resort was used firing up the crowd in Omaha, KC and St. Louis.
