New Transfer Target?

I feel the exact same way. I know we worked our way up to this point on some tweener guys like Ejim and Hogue. But I'd really like to think that we can start to target some 6'8" and above guys that can rebound and fill the Hoiball needs.

Are there alot of 6-8+ rebounders with offensive skills out there?

In 2013-2104, ISU had a serviceable 6-9 255 lb guy on the roster and he couldn't get on the floor. This season, ISU had a 6-8 250 lb guy on the roster...a good rebounder and hard worker on defense by all accounts...who couldn't get on the floor, supposedly because he lacked offense. To be frank, If I was one of these rebounding bigs and ISU was after me, I'd want to know why I wasn't going to end up a benchwarmer like the last two...

From what I can tell, Providence, Iowa State, Louisville, Rutgers, USF, Kansas, Rhode Island, St. Johns, and Tennessee all have fans that have recently followed him.

Auburn, Georgia Southern, Missouri, Rhode Island, Chatanooga StateArkansas-Little Rock all have assistant coaches who just started following him today.

Director of Ops at Vanderbilt started following him today.
I am worried about two of those schools. We are to a point where the rest aren't real competition.

Do you really think we can't upgrade over Percy Gibson and Daniel Edozie? Gibson could only shoot with his left and would shoot whenever he touched the ball. Gibson's last season he shot 40% from the field. For a post player, that's awful.

A guy like Nigel Hayes would be a huge addition to Iowa State.

And ask why are guys like Jackson not playing? Good athlete, He won our dunk contest! A good shooter like Strensland sat while Naz went 2-9. I would ask does the staff sit shooters too?

Come on, Gibson was not serviceable. Despite being 6'9" and 255, he was not better on defense or rebounding. You don't give up offense for even worse defense and rebounding, even if he looks good in a uniform. Turns out he was a available, lightly regarded recruit for a reason.

Another very raw and lightly sought after recruit, Edozie, may have developed enough in one year to be a Big 12 rotation player. If so, it was a hell of a job by the staff to get him up to a Big 12 level in such a short time, and a mistake to not play him some. I do see the problem they would face though- you play him for defense and rebounding. Taking out McKay for that does little improvement in those areas, if any. Do you really take out Georges? It is the ole McD one-way player dilemma.

I agree with what you're saying but I agree with jbh too. If you weren't going to at least give Edozie some run while you were getting crushed on the boards, I don't think a huge need for size is a huge concern for the staff. I would rather find a guy like this guy who could rebound from the perimeter. You also have to remember Niang is gone after next year so his skill set probably isn't relevant unless we find a transfer just as effective as him and I find that unlikely.

Only behind Jake Layman and Ryan Spangler... Although those are more like beyotch screams.

I give Layman the advantage for his brodown chest thumps. If Spangler could combine his beyotch screams with a couple brodown chest thumps AND some new sick tribal work he could be the #1 seed in the Doosh region next year.

Yeah, I could easily see why Edozie probably could have been useful against UAB. It was very frustrating losing all those rebounds, however, you also don't count on Niang going 1-11 in the second half and Naz 2-9, and Hogue not scoring a single basket. Hindsight, it seems stupid, but you count on your play makers to make plays at some point in a game like that. Unfortunately, none did against UAB.

Don't forget his one of a kind big man floor slaps

Nor should they be imo. As we saw with Gibson, we didn't need more size, we needed more rebounding and defense. JBH's question is ridiculous imo. Just going on size and weight, he would have recruits asking about a lack of PT for Ellerman. We are looking for guys that can defend and rebound at a high Big 12 level.

I am an Edozie fan, but it needs to be a Big 12 player, not just a Big 12 body.

I'd put my money on him ending up at Providence. He's from near there, I think. Plus, Cooley can really recruit and could sell him on being the next LaDontae Henton.

He's been saving for that other arm.

Bash Spangler and his dad all you want, but if he played for ISU we would likely still be playing right now...

He would be our #1 rebounder and we certainly could have used his effort last week.

This thread used to be fun. I don't want to pinpoint where it went wrong.

Speaking of Ryan Spangler, you happen to catch the cameos of his old man last night? Giant redneck to say the least.

This is a really distasteful and unnecessary comment. We really should strive to avoid pointless personal attacks.
