New Heavyweight Champion

You're right, a really good dude that was a big underdog defied the odds and knocked out a guy he shouldn't be able to.....boxing is terrible

Seems like a likable guy, too. I just watched his post-fight presser. I think his personality and the fact that he doesn't look like an elite athlete is going to endear him to the media and boxing fans. Might end up being good for the division, even if a lot of people really wanted to see AJ and Wilder in an undisputed title fight.

Wilder is lucky the division is down right now. He is probably one of the weekest Heavyweight champs ever. He has good power and fights hard. He just don't have much boxing skill.

Kind of agree but the heavyweight division has been down for decades.

Combat sports just don't seem to favor depth at heavy weights because it's just so hard to have everything at that size and obviously it's hard to be elite at one thing, like a Wilder. Wilder doesn't have much skill but a ton of power. Fury doesn't have much power but a ton of elusiveness. It's the same in MMA and I think that's why HW classes just aren't as good from top to bottom.

Glad Ruiz is calling SAS out. Guy doesn't know shite about boxing beyond Money Mayweather.

It's incredible to me that he gets to talk about sports besides basketball for a living. He doesn't know anything about anything.

Agree. Makes you appreciate guys like Lennox Lewis and Larry Holmes that much more. Guys are among the best ever because of how well rounded their skills were. Holmes/Lewis are probably 1/2 in my book for best jab ever for a HW.

Is this how bad boxing has gotten? Geez. No wonder nobody cares anymore.
Foreman had 16 years on Ruiz when he won the title from Moorer during the years of guys like Holyfield, Holmes, Bowe, Mercer, Tyson, Morrison, Ruddock.

Ill take Ruiz again. Has a good chin and can throw bombs. Makes me a little nervous he weighs so much more now.

Yeah, who knows? You would think that conditioning would become a factor at that weight if the fight gets past the first few rounds. But then again, he went seven rounds at 268 fighting on short notice the last time around, so maybe his weight is just a non-issue.
