The Killers I think I had read were intentionally trying to sound like a lot of the British rock/pop-ish bands, even though they were American.

I like "Mr. Brightside." Dave Keuning, the guitarist for the Killers, is from Pella. He wrote the classic guitar licks in that song. So, I always feel like it's a nod to an Iowan.
