Montgomery moving on

Praise be to Buddha that Monty's time in purgatory is over.

Hope he lands on a team with an O-line that can consistently get him out of the backfield.

Even if he does have a good oline, his running style is to run people over, not chunk yardage. He is running away from absolutely nobody in the NFL. No team is going to pay big money for a guy who isn’t a home run hitter. He’s a grinder and a good player, but he is a rotational back in this NFL.

It doesn’t mean a ton but Monty was voted as top 100 NFL player prior to this year.
He’s well respected by his peers on and off his team for being a leader and a competitor.
The thing that also separates Monty from most “in between the tackle” type of backs is that he’s a superb pass catcher and blocker.
He has value on third down as well.
Herbert would sometimes come off the field on 3rd down even though it was his drive at the time.
I think Monty has a sneaky path to a James Conner like resurgence with his second contract. That’s obviously best case scenario.

I wouldn't pay Montgomery if I were the Bears. He's a tough runner, but lacks speed. They can probably draft a better RB in the 3rd/4th round. They need to spend money on lineman, WR's and defense.

Great points. I think Monty is a better all purpose back than Herbert, but Herbert is flashier and has the burst you like to see from a starting NFL RB. David is a better blocker and pass catcher than Herbert (so far). Herbert is the better natural runner and in my opinion, should probably 'out-touch' David in terms of taking hand offs and having plays drawn up for him. Not sure DM really shapes up to be a true #1 anywhere in the league, so if he is going to remain in a 1A/1B type of role, he might as well stay in Chicago. I am not sure a truly better scenario is out there waiting for him.

David can pass block pretty well though and with that trash line it was needed.
