McGregor - Mayweather

I'm at a work conference in San Diego or else I'd buy it. Hopefully I can get away for a bit and watch.

I kind of think it will be closer than expected. Connor is used to taking near bare knuckle punches.

Floyd was not known for KO'ing people in the latter years of his career. If he gets in close enough to actually trade blows, McGregor has a puncher's chance.

My guess is that Mayweather will dance him into submission, thus I will not pay to watch this.

I'll get it. I think I know what will happen, but if it doesn't, I don't want to miss it. The downside for boxing here seems large.

Eh, it's not like you wouldn't be able to watch 10 minutes later if something unexpected actually does happen. But I guess millions of people with your mindset is probably why they're doing it in the first place.

I will get it. There will be an undercard with fights. Also the whole thing is interesting. We all know what happens when a great boxer fights and Mma guy (James toney vs . Couture). Let see an mma guy step in against one of the best boxers ever. Plus I'm not against watching one guy kick the Royal crap out of another guy for a lot of money.

It's just going to be a whole lot of Floyd running, dodging, countering, outpointing, and winning most likely by UD... mmmmmboring. Like most of his fights are. I could be wrong, but no way I'm dropping bank on it.

Don't forget the hugging. Lots and lots of awkward prom date hugging.

The hype will be insane because both guys can promote the hell out of things. But I don't think it will be a good fight because I think Mayweather dominates.

I'm going to watch and score myself viewing it as an actual fight and who is dealing the most damage and who is enduring it better rather than a technical accumulation of style points. It's only fair to view it that way when McGregor is making all the concessions for this thing to even exist.

If an MMA expert agreed to wrestle an olympic champ with no MMA experience and the match followed freestyle wrestling rules I would ignore the score just the same. And I'm saying that as someone who couldn't be more partial toward wrestling. Either there would be a fall or I'd use the eyeball test to determine the winner rather than official scoring.

The first of 4 buildup press conferences was held at the Staples Center. 20,000 people showed up. McGregor was in rare form. Had some awesome one liners slamming Mayweather. McGregor also had a nice suit on and had pinstripes that read **** YOU. A lot of hot air being spewed about but some good laughs too.

I still think Floyd will turn the fight into a snoozefest and do whatever he has to in order to win by UD, but this was a pretty good read.

That's only been his MO for the last decade at least. I give him credit for finding a method to become probably the surest bet in boxing history, but IMO it's a real ***** way to fight. I understand the need for defense and countering, but that's all he does. Granted he's so dominant at it he doesn't need any real offense, but then again, that's why he has the reputation of running away from fights to win them.
