What is CMC future reception to Jack Trice in the future?

2040 is a long time away. Matt personally wouldn't get booed, but he's not going to get some huge over-whelming reception either.

HOWEVER, a reunion of the Fiesta Bowl team is likely to have Brock Purdy there, so its going to be hard to judge.

I can think of plenty of reasons to root against Pedo State that don’t have anything to do with spite towards Campbell and Co. That said, I definitely don’t feel any loyalty to them.

At the end of the day, I root for what’s best for Iowa State, and what I think would be best for Iowa State’s image is if we finish next season with more wins than Penn State. So if I’m rooting against Penn State, it’s not out of spite toward Campbell. It’s because I want Iowa State to come out of this hiccup stronger than before, and having a better record than Penn State would be a huge confidence boost.

I think I'll take my autonomous flying car to the game, grab a soylent dog and an energy slurry for $495 at the concessions stand, sit down and give those guys a nice round of applause for a fun season.
If I don't have my hoverboard yet, you can't have a flying car in 2040.

Its the year 2040 and ISU is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Fiesta Bowl team/win. CMC after having a solid but not spectacular career at PSU is introduced to the crowd on the jumbotron.

Considering CMC left ISU in a nearly historic shambles having taken nearly 20 of its players with him including its QB and future QB, what is his reception?
Granted the 2026 season has to play out first for the immediate determination on leaving the program in shambles... I get what you're saying though. My point is that If Campbell had taken 20 players with him 10-15 years ago, that would be completely catastrophic. ISU would be scrambling to find JUCO guys and out there looking under rocks right now to fill roster spots. :D The fact that ISU can just pull in a bunch of experienced FBS bodies with ease makes it different.

I think he'll be well remembered and celebrated. But if 2026 bombs and Rogers is fail town and this thing snowballs for a 5 years, then I could see him being a villain.

When was the last time a coach who left Iowa State without being fired came back for any reason other to coach against the Clones? Was Tim Floyd ever invited back? I know Earle Bruce went into the HOF so he probably did.

Genuinely asking as I have no recollection of that happening.

Any former coach should get a warm welcome if he is invited back to be honored for his time at Iowa State. This is based on the assumption that the former coach is willing to sincerely thank the school and fans for the opportunity to coach here and for what that did to help his career.

If he instead gives the impression that either Iowa State held him back or that we weren't good enough for him then **** him.

It remains to be seen how this one plays out.

If we have a non conference game against Penn State...BOOs rain from above.
If were having a 20th anniversary of the Feista Bowl win and he comes back...warm cheers I guess.

Would Brock be able to be there since he'll be coaching halftime adjustments for the offense that day?

Boos and beer rain down. Traitorous douche tool! Thank god the statue BS is over! CJR is the man now. Former coaches are forgotten when they hose you!

Exactly. If we sucked after Hoiberg we’d probably feel different. He’d get an ovation if he came to Ames as the huskers coach in Hilton now I bet.
I don't think so. Had he retired from the Bulls, I think he would, not after going to Nebraska. Maybe depends on the makeup of the crowd in Hilton, because there is a weird cult of Hoiberg out there among people who were around in his playing days. The students would 100% not cheer him. He might not get the full Adam Haluska treatment, but not an ovation. Appreciate what he did while he was here, but the dude is not a cyclone anymore. He turned in the keys to the city when he went to Lincoln.

I know this is hypothetical but I really don't think Matt has the guts to come back. If he wasn't worshipped, it would weight on his ego.

Everyone in the stadium respectively turns their back to the field, hangs their head and covers their eyes to help him handle his shame for what he did to ISU on his historic exit!!

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. He stayed way longer than anyone else would have. I appreciate everything he did for the university. He raised the profile of the football program. I fully expect Rodgers to do the same if he has success. Its a business. ISU is not a destination job and it never will be.

Here’s what will be telling. When Coach Mac left he remained and still is all in on supporting Iowa State. That has endeared him to fans of all ages. If we become an after thought or stepping stone to Campbell’s career without that same level of return affection…how he’s received might be different.
He was forced out and he's from here. He damn near took the Wisconsin job if I remember right. Given how things went down he looks like a damn fool for not taking it.

The funny part is he is an Iowa guy. Born in Iowa City and played for Iowa. Amazing dude who did some serious stuff to resurrect a terrible program. Add to it he's a gem of a guy.

He hired some lousy assistants when the guys from the original staff went elsewhere. I think thats why he had a hard time consistently winning. You see that a lot.

Definitely. You see people like Fry and Ferentz who maintain a good staff for years…that’s how you win.
