Nothing would surprise me. Which is far different than I felt at the beginning of conference play.

The BYU comeback, Arizona, and @Houston games show me the team still has crazy heart.

This is a pattern by this point — high water Jan then a lull heading into March. I’m hopeful they can regroup and reach their full potential. Which to me is FF/possibly winning the whole thing.

Right *now* pistons aren’t all firing correctly. Anything can happen though.

I’ll never count them out and won’t be surprised by anything.

*edit* I voted rd of 32. As season has progressed they most remind me of the Deonte, Monte, Matt, NWB team that lost to Purdue in terms of potential & potential unknowns.

I picked round of 32. I keep hoping this team has that moment that helps things to click, but it hasn’t happened…and if it doesn’t, that’s about who I think they are right now…a top 30ish team.

I do wonder if they look at how they played defense the first 10 minutes and last 10 of regulation. Had they played like that the whole game, they would have won easily (and not have gassed themselves playing extra sessions). Play hard for 40…if this team would do that, they have final four potential. No one has convinced them to do that for two games in a row of late.

5-6 since being ranked #3
1-3 over the past 4.
I could be wrong but I'm not seeing the 2nd weekend.

So with that logic, probably none of the following teams are making the second weekend:

  • Texas Tech (lost 2 of 4)
  • Wisconsin (lost 2 of 3)
  • Texas A&M (lost 4 of 5)
  • Arizona (lost 4 of 7)
  • Kentucky (lost 2 of 4)
  • Michigan (lost 3 of 4)
  • Purdue (lost 4 of 6)
  • Marquette (lost 4 of 8)
  • Missouri (lost 3 of 4)

If you would of asked me before the loss to KSU on 2/1 I would have said Elite 8 or Final 4. The way they have played lately I think playing as a 3 or 4 seed they should make the Sweet 16 again but it will have to be a good draw. It's so frustrating right now as this team has shown us they can play and nearly beat national title contenders like Auburn and Houston and other teams that may get 4 seeds or higher like Arizona and Texas Tech.

That miracle 3 to beat us at Arizona was the turning point of the season. We have not been the same team since then. KSU spanked us at Hilton the next game then we could not hit water if we fell out of a boat when we shot the ball at KU. We strung 4 wins in a row after that getting Milan back but then laid an egg at OSU who is terrible after clawing back without Jones and Gilbert at Houston. Spanked Arizona at Hilton then played like crap for a good stretch of the game last night against BYU. Hilton Magic willed this team into OT but we still made a lot of bad mistakes with Heise missing a slam and several times we hesitated and passed up shot we would take earlier in the season. That loss to KSU where TJ called out how we played too much iso ball and did not pass the ball around enough seems like some guys now are scared to attack like they did earlier this season. I was at the KU game in Lawrence after that KSU loss and it felt like guys were passing up shots to overcompensate the bad shots we took against KSU.

I want to beat KSU by 20 Saturday just to stick it to Tang and get the monkey off our back on offense. Just go out there and play like you did in December and January and be that team for the rest of March!

I'm concerned about the Big12 tournament; teams confidence is shaky and I worry about Otz's quote on "individual agendas offensively".
If we bow out first game in the B12 tourney, then we won't see the second weekend. If we win a few in the B12 tourney, then S16 it is.

Not sure I think winning the title in KC is the best thing honestly. Get to Friday and lose and I'd be ok with getting some extra days rest. We'd likely be a 3 seed and even winning it all I don't see us a 2 seed.

Keep up the extrapolations. How many of those teams listed do you expect to make Sweet 16?

If 2022 ISU can make the sweet 16 this team can.

In 2022 ISU pretty much got destroyed their last 3 games before NCAA tourney. Including a 30 point loss to Tech in the Big 12 tourney

25% of the sweet 16 that year were teams with a 10 seed or higher..

What's weird is that you have a selected list of teams right on the tippy tip of your tongue in order to refute the 'logic' of what I posted as purely my gut feeling about our team.
Those are literally all teams we are surrounded by for 3/4/5 seeds and literally all of them have losses recently like us. But hey I guess none of those teams are good right.

In fact. Let’s see your second weekend teams. Since we aren’t making it. Who is.

I like these posts but I can't ever predict because it's all about matchups so until we see the bracket it's too tough. The way we CAN play I think we have an Elite 8 run in us but again depends on matchups.
We will be “matched up” with a team somewhere between Auburn, BYU, K State, and Oklahoma State…

Does that help???
