This has turned into the whiniest recruiting thread ever. Why can't we recruit like Texas and Oklahoma? Seriously, first day as a Cyclone fan? Campbell has it right and it's honestly the only way to play the hand he has. Get players that fit and develop.

The cream of the blue bloods classes are only around 3 years. Campbell can take a three star and they can out perform a 5 star when our guy has matured.

Rose is the exception because he came in as a freshman and played like a 5 from the beginning. (Freshman All-America) But if you look at the other 2 LBs, they are good examples of how to build and compete against the elite teams.

Campbell and his staff are some of the best at getting under the radar guys and getting in on them 1st. They are great at getting guys to buy in and develop into all conference players. I won't ever question a player they bring in because they can turn then into studs. I don't care if we can't out recruit Texas or Oklahoma. We still beat them regardless.

Every program has continued to invest in facilities. We are in a much better position relative to the past, but still in the trail position to a lot of programs making more money than ISU. Start YouTubing facilities...it’s startling.

It’s still enough to be wowed. We are no longer the Cleveland Indians in Major League. Combine our facilities with the culture Campbell has created and recruits will come. Current good players actually like being in Ames Iowa.

The fact that people are wondering why we aren't recruiting at the level of Oklahoma and Texas is laughable. We will need to win 9+ games a year for ten years, make it to 7 Big12 Championships, win 4 championships and make it to two playoffs before we even get close to recruiting like them.

We won't be at that level until the media ceases the slip ups of calling us "Ohio State" and the wrong mascot.

We ain't there, nor do I think we will ever be. Keep getting guys like Rose, Hall, Purdy and Dekkers and I'll be happy

Really good athlete who played against some really high level Cincinnati area football teams.

We're always going to be behind the big bucks schools, but that's just a handful of schools. The ones we compete against, sans OU and Texas, we compare very favorably to and outshine in some cases.

Worst ever, huh? Well, I think I am the one who brought up recruiting and there was no whining in my post. All I said was how amazing it is that we get recruits such as this one without a lot of hype or stars, and yet he will contribute to a team that wins a lot of games for us, i.e., our staff is really good.

Maybe it pays to evaluate intelligence and character. Then you get kids who will work hard, develop and learn. Learn some discipline. And they will stay. Look how smart Mike Rose is, as soon as he intercepted Brewer's pass, he went right to a knee, game over. How many 5 star kids would have kept running and thinking "I'm gonna go score now!" Risk a fumble? Selfish idiots.

We've all seen it, the kid who takes off his helmet to pose for the camera, or poses like a dog taking a whiz. Penalty flag, you just cost your whole team. No, I'm not whining. I'm glad we get the players we get, because they represent ISU well and somehow get us into first place despite what all the recruiting gurus said about them.

Glad to hear it.

Generally there is not a lot of difference between the 6th/7th place and 3rd place when it comes to rating classes. Also, CMC tends to recruit guys of character along with being good athletes, so the chances are recruits will qualify and keep out of trouble in school. Still, I agree, it would feel better if ISU was number 5 just once.

There's a lot better chance for success if they're available, and CMC isn't tied to the age/experience thing. He knows you play how you practice. If you play hard and smart and with consistency, you'll get your chance no matter how long you've been here, (see Mike Rose).

Mike was turning heads the minute he got of campus. The other thing I like is that CMC will find a place for a guy that has talent but is not playing at their current position.
